The Valdostan Cheese Festival

The Quart Formage Festival is the grand celebration dedicated to the cheeses of the Aosta Valley, held in Quart, a municipality in the Province of Aosta located along the Dora Baltea river, just east of the regional capital. The event was created to promote and allow tasting of the region's typical dairy products, paired with local wines, in a charming setting: that of the Castle of Quart, a medieval fortress overlooking the area, and the ancient hamlets of the municipality.

A Journey of Taste

The absolute stars are the Valdostan cheeses: Fontina DOP and Fontina d'alpeggio (alpine Fontina), Fromadzo DOP, cheeses from Gressoney and Ourty, and sheep and goat cheeses from local producers. Alongside local cheeses, the festival also hosts special guests from other regions—such as Beaufort and Castelmagno—in a dialogue between Alpine cheese cultures. Each tasting is paired with Aosta Valley wines: Petite Arvine, Cornalin, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Muscat, and other mountain grape varietals.

The "a pià" Formula

In recent editions, the festival has adopted the "a pià" formula: a walk of a few kilometers through the hamlets of Quart, punctuated by tasting stops where you can discover the best cheeses of the Valley paired with local wines. The route passes through characteristic spots of the municipality, including agricultural areas, ancient villages, and areas of natural interest, combining the pleasure of food with the discovery of the landscape. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Quart.
