A miniature peasant life of the past, with 252 characters and 210 animated movements
In Pontey, a small municipality in the middle Aosta Valley in the Province of Aosta, the Multi-purpose Hall of the Microcomunità (ground floor, west side, in the Lassolaz area) hosts an unusual exhibition. It is the work of carpenter Serafino Servodidio, who has recreated peasant life of yesteryear in miniature: historical and cultural buildings, entire production chains reproduced in minute detail, where wheat truly becomes flour and the wood-fired oven chimney smokes.
The exhibition is mechanized: 252 characters, 110 motors, and 210 movements bring the scenes to life. You can recognize the black bread (pan ner) production chain, the Fontina cheese production chain, haymaking, and a miniature reconstruction of the village of Pontey. Alongside the scenes of rural life, there is the nativity scene and, from 2025, a new section dedicated to Bethlehem, with 250 figures and 110 motors.
The exhibition, set up for several years, is freely open to the public during the months of August and the Christmas season, with fixed hours; the rest of the year it can be visited by appointment. An ideal destination for families and the curious, which concretely and poetically tells the peasant tradition and material culture of the Aosta Valley.
The exhibition season indicated on the official channels runs from December 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026. Free admission (without reservation) is available during the Christmas period (December 1 to January 6) and in August, with hours from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM; during the rest of the year, visits are by appointment, at least one day in advance.
New this season: the section dedicated to Bethlehem, presented on November 25, 2025, which enriches Serafino Servodidio's work with 250 new figures and 110 motors, alongside the existing scenes of peasant life and the nativity scene.
On display: pan ner production chain, fontina production chain, haymaking, reconstruction of the village of Pontey, nativity scene, and new Bethlehem section (250 figures, 110 motors).
Pontey is located in the middle Aosta Valley along the SS26, a few kilometers from Châtillon (A5 motorway exit Châtillon-Saint-Vincent). The exhibition is in the Lassolaz area, in the multi-purpose hall of the Microcomunità.
Free admission in August (10:00 AM - 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM - 5:30 PM) and during the Christmas season (December 1st - January 6th). The rest of the year, visits are by appointment only.
