Summer marching band parades on Lake Serraia in Baselga di Pinè
Every summer, the municipality of Baselga di Pinè, in the heart of the Piné Plateau in the province of Trento, hosts "Quando la banda passò", a series of marching band parades that bring the town to life with live music. The initiative turns the streets into an open-air stage, where local bands share the beauty of their repertoire and traditional Trentino folk music with residents and visitors alike.
The traditional route starts from the picturesque Serraia lakeside and winds through the town center along Corso Roma, reaching the parish church square. Each band marches along the route, concluding with a final concert in the small square by the church. It is a simple and engaging way to experience the town, surrounded by the lake, the plateau's mountains, and the warmth of a community deeply connected to its musical heritage.
Over the years, various musical groups from Trentino have participated, including the Banda Sociale di Civezzano and the Caldonazzo Band Group. Each event is dedicated to a guest band, which performs its repertoire in an informal and family-friendly setting suitable for all ages.
"Quando la banda passò" is not a single-day event, but a cycle of performances held between July and August. The concerts generally take place in the morning and are free to attend, making the festival perfect to combine with a walk around Lake Serraia or a day spent outdoors on the Piné Plateau.
Located in Trentino-Alto Adige, Baselga di Pinè is the main town on the plateau of the same name, appreciated for its lakes, trails, and sporting spirit. The marching band festival is part of a rich calendar of summer events and represents an authentic piece of local cultural life, where the town band remains a symbol of community and tradition.
