The festival celebrating the return of the herds from the mountain pastures in Centrale di Bedollo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Desmalgada of Bedollo is one of the most authentic desmontegade in Trentino: the festival marking the return of livestock to the valley at the end of the summer grazing season. When high-altitude grass runs low, farmers lead their herds from the mountain huts of Bedollo, particularly from Malga Vernera and Malga Stramaiolo, down to the valley stables. It is a moment of great significance for the Piné Plateau community, which has marked the transition from summer to autumn this way for generations.
The heart of the festival is the parade of animals: the cows are adorned with flowers, fir branches, and cowbells, following an ancient custom that turns their return into a festive procession along the streets of the Municipality of Bedollo. The day concludes with the awarding of the cow with the best floral decoration and the election of the "Queen of the Desmalgada," as well as recognition for local breeders.
Surrounding the parade is a day of celebration for the whole family at the Multifunctional Center of Centrale di Bedollo:
Organized under the patronage of the Municipality of Bedollo, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), the Desmalgada offers free admission and attracts both residents and visitors to the Piné Plateau every year. It is the ideal opportunity to rediscover the deep bond between this mountain community and its pastoral tradition, amidst the scents of mountain dairy products and the genuine atmosphere of Alpine festivals in Trentino.
The Desmalgada of Bedollo returns in 2026 to celebrate the return of the herds from the pastures of the Piné Plateau. The dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been released: as every year, the event is expected to take place on a Sunday in September at the Multifunctional Center of Centrale di Bedollo, featuring the parade of decorated cows, a market of local products, traditional Trentino cuisine, and the crowning of the Queen of the Desmalgada. Updated details will be published by the Municipality of Bedollo.
Centrale is the main village of Bedollo, on the Piné Plateau, at an altitude of about 1,050 meters. By car from Trento, it takes about 40 minutes driving towards Pergine Valsugana and the Piné Plateau; the festival takes place at the Multifunctional Center on Via Giuseppe Verdi.
Free admission. On-site stands with traditional Trentino cuisine, a bar, and a market. Event suitable for families and children.
