EstaTeatro: theatre comes to the villages

EstaTeatro is a theatre festival for children and families that, every summer, brings performances to the villages of Pergine Valsugana, a town in the Alta Valsugana area in the province of Trento, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. This widespread and grassroots project transforms parks, squares, and courtyards into open-air stages, introducing children to live theatre in an informal and welcoming setting.

Twelve free events

The heart of the festival lies in the twelve free performances held throughout the summer across the various villages of the Municipality of Pergine: from Viarago to Ischia, from Susà to Costasavina, from Nogarè to Canale, as well as Roncogno, Zivignago, Canzolino, Serso, and Canezza. Each evening takes place in a different location, ensuring that theatre reaches every corner of the territory. The programme features a mix of puppet shows, acting, storytelling, and comedy, designed for children but equally entertaining for adults.

A community project

EstaTeatro is organized by Ariateatro ETS in partnership with the Teatro Comunale di Pergine, commissioned by the Municipality of Pergine Valsugana and supported by the Valsugana Tourist Board (APT). The festival is part of the broader summer programme "Un'estate spettacolare", which brings theatre, music, and cinema to the most charming spots of the town from June to September, with the participation of numerous local cultural entities.

Companies and performances

The stage hosts a variety of companies and artists from the Trentino and national children's theatre scene, such as Luciano Gottardi's puppets, Teatro E, Compagnia TTM, Teatro delle Quisquilie, and Arte Viva. The repertoire ranges from classic fairy tales adapted for the stage to original stories, marionettes, and physical comedy, in hour-long shows suitable for the whole family.

An open-air summer in Valsugana

Performances are generally held in the evening, outdoors in the parks and squares of the villages, starting between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM depending on the evening. In case of rain, each event has an alternative indoor venue in the local village hall, ensuring no performance is cancelled. The festival is a wonderful opportunity to discover the villages of Alta Valsugana and experience the Trentino region through culture, all while enjoying free and accessible entertainment.
