The spring festival dedicated to the prugnolo mushroom in the hamlet of Cavola di Toano
When spring arrives in the Reggiano Apennines, the hamlet of Cavola, in the Municipality of Toano (Province of Reggio Emilia), comes alive for the Prugnolo Mushroom Festival. The star is the prugnolo (Calocybe gambosa), a spring mushroom with an intense aroma and delicate flavor, which grows in the meadows and woods of the Reggio hills and has always represented a small treasure for those who know these places.
The day is designed for the whole family and combines multiple aspects: a market fair along the village streets, with stalls of typical products and crafts, shows and games for children, and walks to discover the territory. The program always reserves an important space for the enhancement of local heritage, including historical and architectural beauties of the valley and village traditions.
The highlight is the themed lunch served at the CavolaForum, where the prugnolo mushroom becomes the common thread of the entire menu, from first courses to escalopes. Reservations are mandatory, and the festival, with its attention to detail, is one of the reasons why the event has obtained the recognition of Quality Festival from Unpli.
The event is organized by Pro Loco Cavola (affiliated with Unpli) with the patronage and collaboration of the Municipality of Toano, CavolaForum, CollinaRE, and Bcc Emilbanca. It is an event that well tells the spirit of the Reggiano Apennines: community, local products, and hospitality.
