About Profumi d'Autunno

Every October, the village of Bagnoregio, just steps from the famous Civita, opens its cellars for Profumi d'Autunno, the Cellar Festival organized by the local Pro Loco. It is a gourmet journey through the alleys and squares of the historic center, where you can taste Tuscia wines paired with seasonal specialties: mushrooms, truffles, chestnuts, local meats, and cheeses. Three days of flavors, live music, and entertainment that draw thousands of visitors to the town's ancient cellars every year.

Profumi d'Autunno, the Cellar Festival of Bagnoregio

Profumi d'Autunno is the Cellar Festival held in Bagnoregio, in the heart of the Viterbo Tuscia region (Lazio). Every October, the town's historic center transforms into a vast food and wine trail: the village's historic cellars open their doors to welcome visitors for a weekend dedicated to wine, autumn flavors, and conviviality. The event is organized by the Bagnoregio Pro Loco, with the support of over 150 volunteers.

A gourmet itinerary through the cellars

The heart of the festival is the open cellar itinerary: as you stroll through the alleys and squares of the historic center, you can discover ancient caves and rooms where local wine is served alongside traditional dishes. Over the years, the number of participating cellars has steadily grown, reflecting the community's enthusiastic involvement. The culinary offerings highlight the excellence of the Tuscia region: mushrooms, truffles, chestnuts, select meats, and local cheeses, in a menu that follows the rhythm of the autumn season.

Music and entertainment in the squares

Beyond food and wine, Profumi d'Autunno offers live music and widespread entertainment: on weekend evenings, several town squares host simultaneous concerts, bands, and roving performances, creating a festive atmosphere that enlivens the historic center until late. There are also moments of cultural insight, such as conferences dedicated to the flavors and colors of the season.

Bagnoregio and Civita, the "dying city"

The festival takes place just a stone's throw from Civita di Bagnoregio, the famous village reachable only via a pedestrian bridge, known as the "dying city" and a destination for thousands of tourists from all over the world. During the Profumi d'Autunno weekend, the flow of visitors encompasses the entire municipal area, combining the discovery of one of Italy's most evocative villages with the pleasure of good food and fine wine. It is the ideal opportunity to experience Bagnoregio in autumn, amidst tradition, landscape, and hospitality.

An event that has grown over the years

From a small village fair, Profumi d'Autunno has become one of the most anticipated food and wine events of the Viterbo autumn, capable of attracting thousands of visitors and captivating tourists visiting Civita. The success of the initiative stems from the bond between the Pro Loco, local producers, and the many volunteers who make this community celebration possible every year.

Profumi d'Autunno — edition 2026

Profumi d'Autunno, the Cellar Festival organized by the Pro Loco, returns to Bagnoregio. In 2026, the historic center is expected to come alive again in October with open cellars, wines and typical Tuscia dishes, live music, and entertainment in the village squares, just steps from Civita di Bagnoregio.

The 2026 edition of Profumi d'Autunno is expected, as per tradition, in the month of October in the historic center of Bagnoregio (Viterbo). At the moment, the official dates and program have not yet been published by the Bagnoregio Pro Loco. Based on previous editions, the festival should once again feature the open cellar itinerary with wine tastings and autumn dishes from the Tuscia region, accompanied by live music and entertainment in the village squares. For updated dates and details, please refer to the organization's official channels.
