New oil and spelt, king and queen of autumn at Alviano Castle
In Alviano, a small municipality in the province of Terni in the Amerino region, the Olio & Farro event transforms Alviano Castle – the fortress linked to the famous condottiero Bartolomeo d'Alviano – into a culinary journey for a weekend in October. Extra virgin olive oil and spelt, symbolic products of the area, become the king and queen of the festival.
The heart of the event is the food and wine trail set up within the castle walls, with a covered market in the courtyard. Alongside the tastings, there are guided tours of the Renaissance castle and church, cooking shows with guest chefs, historical culinary presentations, spaces and entertainment for children, as well as thematic exhibitions – such as those dedicated to local mushrooms.
One of the most evocative attractions is 'Emozioni Verticali', the abseiling descent from the castle walls combined with guided oil tastings. There is also a photographic trek through the autumn colours in the surroundings of Alviano. Organized by the Municipality of Alviano together with the Pro Loco, with the support of the Region, Olio & Farro is now a well-established autumn event in Umbria, capable of combining the valorisation of typical products, culture, and landscape.
For 2026, Olio & Farro is expected during its usual autumn period, on a weekend in October, at Alviano Castle. After the 17th edition in 2025, the event will again offer the food and wine trail celebrating extra virgin olive oil and spelt, the symbolic products of the Amerino region.
As tradition dictates, guided tours of the castle and church, cooking shows with guest chefs, the covered market in the courtyard, tastings, and experiences such as the abseiling descent from the walls and the autumn photographic trek are expected. The precise dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been published at the time of writing this description.
The 2026 programme will follow the established structure of the event at Alviano Castle:
The precise dates and detailed programme for the 2026 edition will be published by the organisers on olioefarro.it in the autumn.
