The great seaside celebration in the heart of the Iblean coast
The Pozzallo Fish Festival is one of the most anticipated events of the summer in the town of Pozzallo, overlooking the sea at the southern tip of the Ragusa province in Sicily. Founded in 1967, it is considered one of the longest-running food festivals on the island: a celebration that honors the deep bond between the town and its sea, rooted in fishing, tradition, and conviviality.
The heart of the festival is the famous giant pan, measuring about 4 meters in diameter, in which over 5 tons of fresh fish are fried in peanut oil, following the tradition of maritime street food. The mixed fried fish is served to visitors crowding Piazza delle Rimembranze, where food stalls offer Iblean seafood specialties: octopus, swordfish, shrimp, tuna, and oily fish, served as fried dishes, seafood couscous, salads, and grilled platters.
Alongside the culinary offerings, the Fish Festival provides a rich evening entertainment program: folk performances, live concerts, and fireworks displays close the evenings along the seafront. Over the years, the event has hosted notable artists from the Italian music scene, accompanied by local groups and bands, turning the square into an open-air stage for families and tourists.
The festival is not just about taste and entertainment: in recent years, it has enriched itself with a cultural dimension, featuring photographic and artistic exhibitions dedicated to the sea, cooking shows with chefs, and moments of reflection on sustainable fishing and the promotion of oily fish, sometimes in collaboration with the Sicilian academic community. It is a way to tell the story of Pozzallo's maritime soul and the importance of protecting the Mediterranean.
With its decades of history, the Fish Festival has become an identity-defining event for Pozzallo and the entire Val di Noto area, capable of attracting visitors from the whole Ragusa province and beyond. Strolling among the stalls, tasting the fried fish from the giant pan, and watching the performances in the square is an experience that combines authentic flavors, popular tradition, and the atmosphere of a seaside town in the height of summer.
The 57th Pozzallo Fish Festival will be held from August 21 to 23, 2026 in Piazza delle Rimembranze, in the Municipality of Pozzallo (Ragusa province). The official dates have been confirmed by the organizers, who promise three days dedicated to taste, maritime tradition, and conviviality.
The festival's great stars are returning: the giant pan for fresh fried fish, food stalls featuring octopus, swordfish, shrimp, tuna, and oily fish, local craft stands, folk and musical performances, and fireworks to close the evenings. The detailed program, including the concert lineup and guests, will be published shortly on the official channels of the Municipality of Pozzallo.
Pozzallo is located on the southern coast of the Ragusa province. By car, it can be reached via the SS115; the reference stations and airports are those of Ragusa, Comiso (Comiso-Pio La Torre Airport), and Catania. The event takes place in Piazza delle Rimembranze and the streets of the historic center.
Admission to the festival area is generally free; tastings at the food stalls are paid. Evening shows in the square are free of charge. The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published on the official website and social media channels of the Municipality of Pozzallo in the weeks leading up to the event.
It is recommended to arrive early for evenings with concerts, as the square gets very crowded. Since it is peak beach season, book your accommodation in Pozzallo or nearby towns in advance.
