Modica's summer season of music, theatre, cinema, and tradition
The Modica Summer Fest is the summer programme of the Municipality of Modica, located in the province of Ragusa in the heart of south-eastern Sicily. From June to September, this UNESCO World Heritage city, famous for its Baroque architecture and PGI chocolate, turns into a vast cultural hub. Over 150 events are spread across the historic centre, the seaside resort of Marina di Modica, and the village of Frigintini.
The musical heart of the festival beats at the Auditorium del Mediterraneo in Marina di Modica, a summer arena that has hosted top-tier national and international artists over the years. Alongside major concerts, the programme features theatrical performances, open-air cinema screenings, musical evenings in the town squares, night walks through illuminated alleys, and activities dedicated to families and children.
The Modica Summer Fest places great emphasis on local folk culture. One of the most anticipated events is Tarantarneo, a festival celebrating the 'taranta' that brings traditional Southern music and dance to the streets, alongside local village feasts, food and wine events, and moments dedicated to typical Iblean products. The festival ties in perfectly with other major city events, from the Scenari Festival dedicated to culture to the Ferragosto celebrations by the sea.
With its multidisciplinary approach, the Modica Summer Fest has become one of the most important summer events in the province of Ragusa and the entire south-eastern Sicily, showcasing the city's Baroque heritage and attracting visitors from across the region.
The Modica Summer Fest 2026 renews the appointment with the cultural summer of the Baroque city in the province of Ragusa. As every year, the festival takes place from June to September across the historic centre, the Auditorium del Mediterraneo in Marina di Modica, and the village of Frigintini, with a programme that weaves together music, theatre, cinema under the stars, sports, and folk traditions.
The musical programme of major concerts is announced progressively throughout the season: at the time of publication of this page, the full calendar for the 2026 edition has not yet been fully disclosed. For times, artist names, and ticket details, please refer to the official channels of the Fondazione Teatro Garibaldi and the Modica Summer Fest.
Modica can be reached by car via the motorway and state roads of south-eastern Sicily; the reference airports are Comiso and Catania-Fontanarossa. During the festival, bus connections are available between the centre of Modica and Marina di Modica to facilitate attendance at evening events.
Many events in the programme offer free entry. Major concerts at the Auditorium del Mediterraneo are ticketed, with advance sales available at the Teatro Garibaldi box office and online. It is recommended to check the official channels of the Fondazione Teatro Garibaldi and the Modica Summer Fest for the updated programme.
