The festival celebrating the iconic tree of Rosolini, the City of the Carob
Rosolini, in the far south of the Syracuse province, is known as the City of the Carob. In its countryside, within the Favarotta district, grows a thousand-year-old carob tree nicknamed by the locals "รน patriarca" (the patriarch). It is considered one of the oldest and largest in the world, with a trunk circumference at the base exceeding eighteen meters. It is to this tree, a symbol of resilience and a deep bond with the land, that the Municipality of Rosolini dedicates the Carob Festival every year.
The heart of the event is Piazza Garibaldi, which fills with stalls, scents, and music for the duration of the festival. The program blends gastronomic and cultural moments: tastings of carob-based products prepared by local producers, live cooking demonstrations, in-depth conferences on the qualities of this multifunctional plant, and evening shows for all ages.
Among the most beloved highlights is the parade of Sicilian carts, accompanied by folk groups, musicians, and flag-wavers, which winds through the town center to the main square. The evenings continue with concerts, cabaret, and live performances, culminating in a fireworks display that closes the festival. The event is traditionally linked to the feast of the patron saint, San Luigi Gonzaga, and the Rosolini summer season, which is animated by various food and wine events.
The Carob Festival is organized by the Municipality of Rosolini in collaboration with the Pro Loco, with the support of the Sicilian Region through the GAL Eloro. It is one of the events that best captures the identity of this corner of Sicily, where the carob is not just a tree, but a true cultural and gastronomic heritage.
The 2026 Carob Festival in Rosolini will be held from July 31 to August 2 in Piazza Garibaldi. As per tradition, the event will offer tastings of carob-based products prepared by local producers, live cooking demonstrations, cultural moments, the evocative Sicilian cart parade with folk groups, and public performances in the square.
At the moment, the full program for the 2026 edition, including artist names and evening schedules, has not yet been announced by the organizers. The official page indicates that the detailed calendar will be published in the weeks leading up to the event.
