The Alta Valle Belbo potato festival in the highest village of the Langhe
At an altitude of 896 meters, Mombarcaro is the highest municipality in the Langhe, earning it the nickname "the rooftop of the Langhe." It is right up here, in this small village in the province of Cuneo in Piedmont, that the Potato Festival - Sant'Anna Fair comes to life every year during the last week of July, standing as one of the most cherished events in the Alta Langa.
The heart of the festival is the Alta Valle Belbo potato, a local product grown in the high-altitude soils of the territory, protected and promoted by the dedicated Consortium for the enhancement and protection of the Alta Valle Belbo potato. Thanks to the cool climate and unique soil composition, this potato boasts an intense quality and flavor that make it a recognized excellence of Langhe cuisine.
At the food stalls set up in the historic center, the potato is served in all its traditional Piedmontese variations:
The festival is also a fair: during the main days, the village hosts an exhibition of local products, crafts, and agricultural machinery, with a market that brings the streets to life. There is no shortage of entertainment, with dance evenings accompanied by ballroom orchestras, live music, DJ sets, and popular theater performances. Among the most anticipated and folkloric events is the election of Miss and Mister Potato, now a consolidated tradition of the festival.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Mombarcaro together with the Municipality and the Consortium, with the support of local entities, the Potato Festival - Sant'Anna Fair is much more than a gastronomic event: it is the moment when the small community of the Alta Valle Belbo gathers and welcomes visitors, offering the chance to discover an authentic corner of the Langhe far from the most crowded circuits, amidst panoramas that, on clear days, reach as far as the sea.
The 2026 edition of the Potato Festival - Sant'Anna Fair is scheduled in Mombarcaro from July 25 to 30, 2026, with the traditional highlight of the Sant'Anna Fair on the last Sunday of the month. As per tradition, the festival will feature the Alta Valle Belbo potato at the food stalls, an exhibition of local products and crafts, and dance evenings in the historic center.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including times, evening menus, and musical guests, will be published by the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Mombarcaro in the weeks leading up to the event.
Mombarcaro can be reached by car from the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Ceva or Millesimo exit) and then along the roads of the Alta Langa. From Alba and Mondovรฌ, you arrive via the scenic roads of the Belbo Valley. As it is the highest municipality in the Langhe, it is advisable to allow some extra time for the final climb.
The festival takes place in the last week of July, with the highlight on the last Sunday of the month, coinciding with the Sant'Anna Fair.
Admission to the event is free. Catering services are available for a fee at the food stalls; reservations are generally recommended for Sunday lunch.
