A pork-themed gastronomic evening in Treglio, the village of frescoes
Pork Fest is one of the most anticipated summer evenings in Treglio, a tiny municipality in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, known throughout the region as the "village of frescoes." The event takes place in Piazza San Giorgio, the heart of the historic center, transforming the square into a large open-air dining area dedicated to pork and the flavors of the Frentano tradition.
Organized by A.S.D. Treglio Calcio with the support of Pro Loco Treglio, Pork Fest was born as a gastronomic evening designed to bring together village residents, families, and visitors from neighboring towns. The stalls offer pork dishes cooked on the grill according to local rural recipes, accompanied by traditional products and wines from the Teatine hills. The evening flows amidst the aromas of the grill, crowded tables, and the festive chatter typical of Abruzzese village festivals.
Alongside the culinary offerings, Pork Fest features live music that keeps the evening going until late. The festival is part of the Sotto le luci del borgo (Under the Village Lights) summer program, a series of events that Pro Loco Treglio dedicates every year to animating the historic center during the warmer months, featuring gastronomic, cultural, and musical appointments.
Attending Pork Fest is also an opportunity to discover Treglio, one of the painted villages of Abruzzo: since 2000, artists have frescoed the walls of the village houses. The town hosts an international school of fresco painting and proudly bears the title of "Village of the Fresco." Strolling through the decorated alleys, just a stone's throw from the Trabocchi Coast and the Sangro River valley, adds an artistic and scenic touch to the festive evening.
Pork Fest offers free admission: you only pay for what you consume at the stalls. It is the ideal event for an outdoor evening with family or friends, to savor popular Abruzzese cuisine and experience the hospitality of a small village in the Frentano area.
