Four evenings of flavor and folk music in Piazza Umberto I, in the Picentini Mountains
In the villages of the Picentini Mountains, ravioli are more than just a first course: they are the dish of Sundays, holidays, and family gatherings. The Raviolo Festival in San Cipriano Picentino, in the province of Salerno, stems from this domestic tradition, bringing it to the public square with recipes that local families have cherished for decades. As the organizing Pro Loco notes, these evenings celebrate the local raviolo as a symbol of the regional culinary heritage.
The festival has a long but interrupted history: after a decade-long hiatus, the event returned in August 2025 for its eleventh edition, coinciding with the fortieth anniversary of the Pro Loco San Cipriano Picentino. The comeback was met with great enthusiasm by locals and neighboring towns, immediately becoming one of the most anticipated events of the late summer in the Picentini area.
Everything takes place in Piazza Umberto I, in the town's historic center. Food stalls occupy the square, while the stage hosts evening performances. It is an authentic village festival format, held outdoors, where people eat at long communal tables and stay late to enjoy the music. The stalls open in the evening, around 8:30 PM, and the festivities continue until late at night.
Each evening, a different group enlivens the square with a program that highlights traditional Campanian folk music, tammurriata, and festive repertoire. The 2025 edition featured performances by Paranza Picentina, Sette Bocche, I Picarielli, and the Caffeina Band: four distinct acts blending rural tradition and folk dance, accompanying the four days of the festival.
The undisputed star is, of course, the raviolo, offered in several variations. However, the festival menu is extensive and designed to suit all tastes and dietary needs:
San Cipriano Picentino is a town of just over six thousand inhabitants in the province of Salerno, Campania, nestled on the slopes of the Picentini Mountains, a short distance from the Sele plain and the coast. The municipal area includes the hamlets of Filetta, Campigliano, Pezzano, and Vignale, each with its own traditions and festivals. It is an area of chestnut groves, hazelnut orchards, and small-scale agriculture that fuels a dense calendar of food festivals from June to November.
The Pro Loco San Cipriano Picentino organizes more than just the Raviolo Festival: its calendar also includes the Chestnut Festival in autumn and the Festival of Festivals of the Picentini, a major event in June that brings together over twenty local associations in Piazza Umberto I, each showcasing their specialty. In that context, the Raviolo Festival is presented as a key stop on the Picentini festival circuit, further promoted by a "Festival Passport" that encourages visitors to collect stamps from event to event.
Those looking for a genuine village festival, free from tourist filters, will find exactly what they expect: affordable prices, dishes prepared by volunteers, live music, and a square filled with people of all ages. It is also a great starting point for exploring the Salerno hinterland at the end of summer, when the evenings in the hills are cooler than those on the coast.
The dates for the 2026 edition have been announced by the Pro Loco San Cipriano Picentino in the official calendar of local festivals: the Raviolo Festival will take over Piazza Umberto I from Thursday, August 27 to Sunday, August 30, 2026, confirming the late-summer slot chosen the previous year.
As per tradition, the stalls will open in the evening, serving ravioli prepared according to local recipes, alongside panini, fried snacks, desserts, and drinks, with attention to the needs of those who are celiac or lactose intolerant. Live music will accompany the four days on the square's stage.
At the moment, the Pro Loco has only released the dates: the detailed program, including musical acts and times, will be published on the association's official channels in the weeks leading up to the event.

By train: the nearest station is Salerno, connected to the High-Speed rail network, from which you can continue by car or local transport. By plane: Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi Airport in Pontecagnano is just a few kilometers away, or Naples-Capodichino Airport.
Stalls open in the evening, around 8:30 PM. Admission to the festival area is free: you only pay for what you consume, with typical village festival pricing.
Parking in the town center is limited: it is best to arrive early and leave your car along the access roads. Those with specific dietary needs can request the gluten-free or lactose-free menu at the stalls. For accommodation, the widest range of options is found in Salerno and on the Pontecagnano coast, about twenty minutes away by car.
