Summer afternoon concerts at the Madonna di Hal Sanctuary in Murazzano, in the heart of the Alta Langa.
Pomeriggi in Musica is the summer concert series held in Murazzano, a small, hilltop village in the Alta Langa, in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont. Every Sunday afternoon, between late July and late August, music resonates within the Baroque walls of the Madonna di Hal Sanctuary, located at the old entrance to the village, just a stone's throw from the hills that made this corner of the Langhe famous.
The festival began in the summer of 2017, with the first cycle of afternoon concerts kicking off on August 6th. Since then, it has become a highly anticipated tradition, bringing together residents, vacationers, and music lovers who travel up here to enjoy high-quality performances and soak in the quiet atmosphere of the Langhe.
The Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Hal is a treasure trove of art and devotion. The current building, in Baroque style and featuring an elegant bell tower, houses marble altars and a venerated image of the Madonna and Child painted on a slate slab—a reproduction of the icon from the Belgian town of Hal. Its vaulted ceilings and intimate acoustics provide a natural soundbox for the concerts, which take on a deeply personal and reflective tone here.
The beauty of Pomeriggi in Musica lies in its variety. Every Sunday brings a different ensemble to the stage: choirs singing songs from around the world, early music duos, string and vocal trios, brass quintets, and Occitan folk groups. The program spans from the sonatas of Handel, Bach, and Telemann to the traditional dances of the Occitan valleys, and from Baroque masterpieces to popular favorites. It is a program designed to bring live music to everyone in a relaxed and friendly setting.
Murazzano is an Alta Langa village best known for its cheese, Murazzano DOP, one of the oldest sheep's milk tomas in Piedmont. Visiting the village means discovering panoramic views that stretch across the hills, a medieval tower, and a network of trails winding through hazelnut groves and woods. Attending a Pomeriggi in Musica concert is the perfect way to combine exploring the local area with an authentic cultural experience.
Concerts are held regularly on Sundays at 5:00 PM and admission is free of charge. Some dates may take place in different locations in the village, such as the Church of the Battuti Neri in the main square or, in some editions, in the nearby town of Torresina.
