Artisanal pizza celebrations in the shadow of the Troia Rose Window
The Pizza Festival is a food and wine event celebrating the iconic product of Italian cuisine in Troia, in the province of Foggia. Established in 2025, the festival takes place in the scenic Piazza Episcopio, the monumental heart of the village, dominated by the Co-Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and its extraordinary eleven-spoke Rose Window, a unique masterpiece of Apulian Romanesque sculpture.
Promoted by the Municipality of Troia together with the Passione Pizza association, the Pizza Festival transforms the historic center into a large open-air laboratory of taste. Professional ovens lit in the square, food and wine stands, tasting trails, and show cooking sessions accompany the public through evenings of great participation. In the first edition, approximately 3,000 pizzas were baked in just two evenings, attracting thousands of residents, visitors, and tourists.
The technical heart of the event is the competition that brings together dozens of professional master pizza makers from all over Italy, led by the experience of the Passione Pizza association and its founder, the pizza chef Antonio Scapicchio, a multiple award-winner at the World Pizza Championships. The trials are divided into various categories—from Classic to Neapolitan, from Pala (peel) to Alternative and Dessert proposals—with a qualified jury evaluating dough, baking, taste, and presentation.
The festival also dedicates ample space to children and families, with show cooking and educational activities involving local schools, introducing children and teenagers to the secrets of dough, ingredients, and preparation techniques. It is a way to combine the promotion of an artisanal craft with an educational and community dimension.
The Pizza Festival is one of the key events of the Troian Summer, the rich summer calendar that brings over sixty events to Troia between July and September, ranging from music, theater, and culture to food, wine, sports, and popular traditions. Alongside the Wheat Festival, the Wine Festival, and the Troia Theater Festival, the festival dedicated to pizza confirms the Daunian village's commitment to hospitality and the promotion of local excellence in one of the most fascinating corners of inland Puglia.
The 2026 Pizza Festival is confirmed as one of the most anticipated gastronomic events of the Troian summer. The second edition is scheduled for August 28 and 29, 2026 in Troia, in the province of Foggia, as part of the 2026 Troian Summer calendar, which offers over sixty events from July to September.
As in the first edition, the event will bring the best master pizza makers in Italy to the historic center, with the expected return of the competition organized by the Passione Pizza association, tastings, food and wine stands, and family activities in Piazza Episcopio.
The detailed program of the festival—pizza maker line-up, times, and guests—will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event on the official channels of the Municipality of Troia.
Troia is located in the Daunian Subappennino, in the province of Foggia. By car, it can be reached from the Foggia motorway exit (A14) by continuing towards the Subappennino, about 30 minutes from the provincial capital. The reference railway station is Foggia, connected to Troia by bus services.
Events are concentrated in Piazza Episcopio and the historic center, at the foot of the Cathedral and its Rose Window.
Access to the festival in the square is free; pizzas and tastings can be purchased at the stands set up for the occasion. It is recommended to check dates, times, and the updated program on the official channels of the Municipality of Troia.
