The grand spring fair featuring market stalls, horses, and shows in the City of Cavalry
The Spring Fair is one of the most beloved events in Pinerolo, located in the heart of the Province of Turin at the foot of the Pinerolo valleys. For an entire Sunday in late April, the city center turns into a vast open-air shopping promenade: over 250 stalls stretch for nearly two kilometers along Corso Torino and Viale Fenestrelle, offering handicrafts, gourmet products, flowers, homeware, and seasonal specialties. It is a stroll that blends commerce, tradition, and local discovery.
The true hallmark of the event is the "Pinerolo in Sella" showcase, held in Piazza d'Armi. It is no coincidence that the horse is the star: Pinerolo has always been known as the City of Cavalry, the historic home of the prestigious Cavalry School that for generations trained world-renowned officers and riding instructors. The event brings horses back to the streets and squares of the city center, symbolically marking the opening of the outdoor equestrian season.
Throughout the day, Piazza d'Armi hosts performances by numerous clubs and associations: English and Western riding, dressage, Spanish High School, Vaquera traditions, and the Butteri (Italian cowboys), along with carousels and skill demonstrations. There are also moments designed for children, such as the "Battesimo della Sella" (First Saddle Experience), and equine therapy activities dedicated to inclusion and children with disabilities.
The fair is surrounded by various initiatives throughout the city. Piazza Facta hosts the "Local Delicacies" market, while Piazza San Donato and the historic center feature a paper and vinyl market, and Piazza Vittorio Veneto hosts the "Mani Creative" craft market. The Street Food Festival takes place at Largo Lequio, while the large Luna Park in Piazza Terzo Alpini remains open for younger visitors. The day is enriched by special openings of city museums, including the Historical Museum of the Cavalry Arm and the Civic Art Gallery at Palazzo Vittone, as well as guided tours of the historic center via the Welcome Tour.
Ingresso gratuito.
By car: Pinerolo can be reached from Turin in about 40 minutes via the SP23 or SP589. By train: the Pinerolo station is connected to Turin Lingotto and Turin Porta Nuova with frequent regional trains.
The event takes place on a single Sunday from approximately 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM; equestrian performances in Piazza d'Armi run from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Admission to all events is free.
During the fair, many streets in the center are closed to traffic: it is advisable to park in the outer areas and walk to the heart of the event. Don't miss the special openings of the city museums.
