The great celebration of Piedmontese-style fritto misto in Ferrere, in the heart of the Asti Monferrato
In the heart of the Asti Monferrato, the town of Ferrere (Province of Asti, Piedmont) hosts one of the region's most beloved food and wine festivals every year: the Piedmontese Fritto Misto Festival. Organized with passion by the Ferrere Pro Loco, the event celebrates a signature dish of regional cuisine, drawing large crowds from across the Asti area and neighboring provinces each year.
The absolute star of the festival is the Piedmontese-style fritto misto, a historic recipe from the 'cucina povera' that has become a true symbol of Piedmontese identity. The version served in Ferrere consists of twelve pieces, all cooked to order at the food stands set up for the occasion: a succession of sweet and savory bites that tell the story of centuries of culinary tradition in the Piedmontese countryside. Alongside the fried platter, there are agnolotti, another cornerstone of Monferrato dining, and numerous other local specialties.
The festival spans two evenings. The food stands open from 7:00 PM, when queues begin to form at the service counters. Dance music is a staple of both nights: orchestras and bands enliven the festival area, creating that convivial, grassroots atmosphere that characterizes the best village festivals in Piedmont.
Now over thirty years old, the Ferrere Fritto Misto Festival is a permanent fixture on the Monferrato summer calendar. Its longevity testifies to the strong bond between the Ferrere community and its gastronomic identity: an event that brings generations together and highlights the food and wine of the Langhe Monferrato Roero hills, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Piedmontese Fritto Misto Festival of Ferrere returns on the weekend of June 20 and 21, 2026 for its 31st edition, confirmed by the Langhe Monferrato Roero tourism board. The food stands, managed by the Ferrere Pro Loco, open from 7:00 PM on both evenings, offering the essential twelve-piece Piedmontese-style fritto misto, agnolotti, and numerous other local specialties. Dance music accompanies the evenings on Saturday and Sunday, in a genuine village festival atmosphere in the heart of the Province of Asti.
Detailed program (orchestras, entertainment, and activities) published on the official poster and social media channels of the Ferrere Pro Loco in the days leading up to the event.
