Piazza di Circo: contemporary circus arrives in Roccaforte Mondovì

Piazza di Circo is the contemporary circus and performing arts festival of the Monregalese area, conceived and curated by the L'Albero del Macramè Arte & Cultura association under the artistic direction of Marco Donda. Recognized by the Ministry of Culture, it is one of the most vibrant contemporary circus festivals in Northwest Italy. After years spent primarily within the walls of Mondovì, the festival truly becomes «widespread» from 2026, embracing eight municipalities in the Province of Cuneo, in Piedmont: among these is the Municipality of Roccaforte Mondovì, nestled at the foot of the Monregalese valleys.

A widespread summer across eight municipalities

The 2026 edition, titled «Artistic Resonances», is the largest ever: 34 performances by 24 national and international companies, scheduled from June 21st to mid-August. In addition to Mondovì, the program reaches Pianfei, Paroldo, San Michele Mondovì, Frabosa Soprana, Frabosa Sottana, Villanova Mondovì, and Roccaforte Mondovì. The vision is to bring the language of the circus to the most evocative spots in the region: historic centers, village squares, hamlets, and natural settings, where acrobats, jugglers, clowns, and fire artists meet the public in an intimate and familiar atmosphere.

The event in Roccaforte Mondovì

In Roccaforte Mondovì, the festival stops in the charming Baracco hamlet, featuring a fire performance with the show «Banyan» by the Unalamp company: an evening event made of flames, movement, and poetry, capable of transforming a village space into a small open-air theater. This is how Piazza di Circo interprets its relationship with the villages: not just as backdrops, but as protagonists of a season of shared wonder for residents and visitors alike.

The festival combines a dedication to auteur circus art with a desire to involve local communities, offering shows suitable for all ages, moments dedicated to families and children, and more sophisticated proposals for new circus enthusiasts. The choice of an itinerant calendar enhances the landscape and identity heritage of the Monregalese, a land of valleys, mountains, and traditions that finds in contemporary circus a new way to tell its story.
