About Piazza Armerina Carnival

Every winter, the Piazza Armerina Carnival brings the historic center of this town in the province of Enna, in the heart of Sicily, to life. With its allegorical floats, masked groups, parades, and music, the event turns Piazza Falcone e Borsellino into a stage of color and joy. Promoted by the local municipality with an eco-friendly approach, the Carnival attracts families and visitors from across the island, blending popular festivities with the charm of a UNESCO World Heritage city, home to the nearby Villa Romana del Casale.

The Piazza Armerina Carnival

The Piazza Armerina Carnival is one of the most cherished winter events in the Municipality of Piazza Armerina, located in the heart of the Enna province, in Sicily. For several days, the town's historic center fills with color, music, and cheer: allegorical floats, costumed groups, and choreographed performances parade through the streets and squares, offering a spectacle that delights both young and old.

Allegorical floats and parades

The heart of the festival is the parade of allegorical floats, crafted with care and imagination by local groups and associations, often inspired by current events and satire. Alongside the floats, masked groups march in elaborate costumes with choreographed routines, creating an atmosphere of joyful popular participation. The festivities typically culminate in an awards ceremony for the best floats, groups, and performances, accompanied by live musical entertainment.

The venue: Piazza Falcone e Borsellino

The focal point of the event is Piazza Falcone e Borsellino, in the town center, which serves as the main stage for parades, shows, and entertainment. Over the years, the festival has expanded to other areas of the historic center, energizing the very heart of Piazza Armerina.

An eco-friendly Carnival

In recent years, the Piazza Armerina Carnival has adopted an eco-friendly approach: the municipal administration, through the Departments of Environment and Tourism, has linked the festival to awareness campaigns regarding proper waste management and recycling, turning a moment of pure fun into an educational opportunity for citizens and youth.

Between festivities and heritage

Experiencing the Carnival in Piazza Armerina also means discovering one of the most fascinating art cities in inland Sicily. Just a few kilometers from the center lies the famous Villa Romana del Casale, a UNESCO World Heritage site, known worldwide for its extraordinary Roman-era mosaics. The Carnival thus becomes the perfect occasion to combine popular tradition, entertainment, and cultural tourism in a single Sicilian weekend.

Piazza Armerina Carnival — edition 2026

The dates for the 2026 edition of the Piazza Armerina Carnival have not yet been officially announced. The event traditionally takes place during the Carnival period, between February and early March, in Piazza Falcone e Borsellino, featuring allegorical floats, masked groups, parades, and musical performances in the heart of the historic center.

The 2026 Piazza Armerina Carnival is expected to renew the tradition of allegorical floats, masks, and parades in the historic center of the town. At the moment, the Municipality of Piazza Armerina has not yet released the program or official dates for the 2026 edition.
