Four days of theatre, music, and performing arts at Masseria Santa Barbara in Caltanissetta
Per un pugno di terra is a multidisciplinary cultural event held in Caltanissetta, in the heart of Sicily, at the evocative Masseria Santa Barbara on Via del Minatore. Established in 2023, the festival has quickly become one of the most compelling fixtures on the local cultural scene, thanks to a format that weaves together theatre, music, performing arts, open-air workshops, and debates.
The artistic direction is led by Aldo Rapè, an actor and director currently heading the Teatro Rosso di San Secondo, while executive production is managed by the PrimaQuinta company. The festival stands out for its distinct identity: it is not merely a calendar of events, but a journey of reflection that places the human being, instinct, empathy, and creativity at the centre.
Each edition of Per un pugno di terra revolves around a core theme that gives coherence to the entire programme. Previous editions have explored the relationship between spirituality, madness, and poetry, drawing inspiration from the words of Alda Merini. The common thread remains the centrality of the individual as an active participant in contemporary debate.
The festival's format alternates between free events—such as Pilates and Tai Chi classes, participatory performances, and public discussions—and ticketed evening shows dedicated to concerts and theatrical performances. Everything is concentrated in one location, Masseria Santa Barbara, which, with its open-air spaces, offers the ideal setting for an immersive experience.
Integrated into the cultural calendar of Caltanissetta and its province, the festival represents a precious opportunity to experience art in an intimate, high-quality setting. The small-scale nature of the event, far from the mass-market appeal of commercial festivals, makes it an authentic experience for those seeking a genuine dialogue with theatre and music.
The fourth edition of the festival, titled Natural Intelligence, proposed a reflection on human capacity guided by instinct, emotion, and empathy—not in opposition to artificial intelligence, but as an opportunity to rediscover the centrality of the individual. The artistic direction of Aldo Rapè built a programme that alternated music, theatre, and moments of practice and debate, all hosted at the Masseria Santa Barbara in Caltanissetta.
Masseria Santa Barbara is located at Via del Minatore 94, Caltanissetta. By car, Caltanissetta can be reached via the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (Caltanissetta exit). By train, the Caltanissetta Centrale station is served by regional Sicilian lines.
Free events (Pilates and Tai Chi classes, participatory performances, meetings) do not require tickets. For ticketed concerts and theatrical shows, advance booking is available via TicketZeta.
