A classical music festival in the heart of Chianti

The Pentecost Festival is one of the most evocative chamber music series in Tuscany. It is held in the municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle, in the province of Florence, and takes place on the stage of the Cenacle Hall of the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo in Badia a Passignano, a space frescoed in 1476 by Domenico Ghirlandaio. Listening to live music in front of a Renaissance masterpiece, nestled in the Chianti hills, is an experience that blends art, landscape, and exceptional performance.

A forty-year history

In 2026, the festival celebrates its 40th edition, a significant milestone for an event that has grown over time to become a benchmark for classical music lovers throughout the region. The festival is organized by the Associazione Amici della Musica Tavarnelle, under the artistic direction of Tiziano Mealli, and is supported and sponsored by the Municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle, the Tuscany Region, and the Metropolitan City of Florence, with additional contributions from ChiantiBanca and the Fondazione CR Firenze.

What to expect

The program alternates between established names in international concert performance and emerging young musicians, with repertoires ranging from classical and romantic works (Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky) to 20th-century pieces (Berio, Debussy, Ravel, Respighi). Concerts typically take place in the evening, around 9:15 PM, offering the audience the chance to hear quartets, trios, duos, and chamber ensembles in an acoustically intimate space with profound historical and artistic significance.
