The Pedesina Polenta Feast
Perched on the slopes of Valgerola, in the province of Sondrio, Pedesina is the smallest municipality in Italy by population: a few dozen residents who, every summer, keep a very dense network of events alive thanks to the local Pro Loco. The Polenta Feast is one of these: a mid-summer lunch organized by the Pro Loco of Pedesina, where polenta slowly cooked in traditional cauldrons becomes an excuse to get together.
The event is held at the end of August, usually at midday, and is the classic village gathering: shared tables, the fresh mountain air, and that sense of community that survives better in small mountain villages than elsewhere. For those on holiday in Valtellina or hiking the trails of Valgerola, it's an opportunity to stop and taste the simple flavours of the Alps.
The Pro Loco of Pedesina, in the Municipality of Pedesina (Province of Sondrio), includes the polenta feast in a summer calendar that also features the feast of the Madonna della Visitazione, the feast of San Rocco, outdoor cinema evenings, and the autumn chestnut festival.
