In Chiavenna, in the province of Sondrio, the crotti are much more than cellars: they are natural caves crossed by the sorèl, a stream of fresh air at a constant temperature that has always made these places ideal for aging cured meats and cheeses and for gathering around a table. The Festival of the Crotti, founded in 1965, was created precisely to promote this unique tradition of Valchiavenna.
Andèm a Cròt
The heart of the event is the gastronomic route "Andèm a Cròt": private crotti in the valley open their doors and welcome visitors with typical tasting menus. Among the specialties not to be missed are bresaola, chiavennaschi gnocchetti, fioretto cake, and Prosto biscuits, accompanied by the valley's wines. Ticket presales for the routes usually open on August 1st.

The 2026 edition of the Festival of the Crotti of Chiavenna is held over two weekends — September 5-6 and 12-13 — confirmed by the official website. The star is the "Andèm a Cròt" route, which opens the private crotti of the valley with tasting menus based on bresaola, chiavennaschi gnocchetti, fioretto cake, and Prosto biscuits. Alongside the gastronomic part, the program includes music, shows, cultural initiatives, activities for children, and cycling tours in the historic center and among the crotti of Valchiavenna.
