Chestnut roast and tasting tours in the Valsassina village
When the chestnuts ripen and the woods turn red, the village of Moggio, in the Province of Lecco, celebrates the season with Profumi e Sapori d'Autunno. Overlooking Valsassina and a popular destination for hikers heading to Piani di Artavaggio, Moggio opens its streets to a food and wine festival that has marked the arrival of autumn for over twenty years.
The event typically spans two days. On Saturday afternoon, the classic chestnut roast kicks off, with roasted chestnuts, games, and entertainment for children. On Sunday morning, in Piazza Cavour, the tasting kit is distributed, allowing participants to follow an itinerant route through the village's establishments: each stop offers a taste of Valsassina cuisine — soups, traditional dishes, mountain specialties — paired with wines from Italian cellars.
Organized by the Municipality of Moggio in collaboration with local entities, the festival involves the village's restaurants, inns, and shops, transforming the center into a culinary itinerary. It's an opportunity to discover the most authentic Valsassina, far from mass tourism, and to experience the hospitality of a mountain village that makes conviviality its distinctive feature.
Among the tastings, there are products that tell the story of this corner of Lombardy: Valsassina cheeses, chestnuts from the woods, hot dishes suitable for the first cold days. All in a family atmosphere, with the backdrop of the Lecco mountains.
For 2026, the Municipality of Moggio confirms the autumn tradition of Profumi e Sapori d'Autunno, the food and wine festival that has enlivened the Valsassina village for over twenty years. The formula remains the tried and tested one: chestnut roast and entertainment on Saturday afternoon, distribution of the tasting kit and itinerant route through the village's establishments on Sunday morning, starting from 10:00 AM in Piazza Cavour.
The precise dates and the list of participating establishments will be published on the Municipality of Moggio's website closer to the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Municipality of Moggio in the weeks preceding the event. Based on recent editions, the usual structure includes:
