The Pro Loco's autumn feast with taragna polenta and roasted chestnuts
When autumn colours the woods of lower Valtellina, Andalo Valtellino — a municipality in the province of Sondrio — hosts the event that ideally closes the festival season: the chestnut festival organised by the local Pro Loco at the Camillo De Rossi Sports Centre.
The day opens with lunch featuring taragna polenta, one of the symbolic dishes of Valtellina cuisine, and continues in the afternoon with roasted chestnuts distributed to all attendees, accompanied by the warm and familiar atmosphere typical of village festivals. It's an opportunity to gather around traditional flavours before winter.
The event, free in its spirit of community celebration, is one of the highlights of the calendar that the Pro Loco of Andalo Valtellino offers throughout the year, from the mountain feast at Reolino to summer sports events.
For autumn 2026, the Pro Loco of Andalo Valtellino will again host the chestnut festival at the Camillo De Rossi Sports Centre. The event, usually held on a Sunday in October, maintains its tried-and-tested formula: lunch featuring taragna polenta and, in the afternoon, roasted chestnuts for everyone.
The precise date will be announced by the Pro Loco on its official channels in the weeks prior.
The detailed programme for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Pro Loco of Andalo Valtellino. The traditional structure includes:
Camillo De Rossi Sports Centre, Andalo Valtellino (SO), lower Valtellina, province of Sondrio.
October, traditionally on a Sunday.
