The patron saint festival blending faith, light displays, and major concerts in the Gargano region
The Patronal Feast of Saints Nicandro, Marciano and Daria is the most anticipated event of the year in San Nicandro Garganico, a town in the Alto Tavoliere overlooking the lakes of Lesina and Varano, in the Province of Foggia, Puglia. Every year, in mid-June, the town pauses to pay homage to its three patron saints with a program that combines deep popular devotion with the joy of public festivities.
The religious heart of the festival is the solemn procession of the statues of the Patron Saints, which winds through the streets of the historic center, accompanied by the faithful, religious brotherhoods, and the "Città di San Nicandro Garganico" marching band. The festivities open at dawn with the traditional firing of firecrackers, while liturgical celebrations mark the passing of the days. The devotion to Saints Nicandro, Marciano, and Daria is a defining identity trait of the Gargano community, passed down from generation to generation.
Alongside the sacred dimension, the festival offers a rich secular program. The historic center is illuminated by famous festive lights, and the town's squares host traditional food festivals with folk music, brass orchestras, and live bands. The highlight evenings take place in Piazza IV Novembre, a stage for major concerts that have featured renowned names in Italian music over the years. Each edition concludes with spectacular pyromusical shows, with fireworks lighting up the Gargano sky.
The event is organized by the Patronal Feast Committee Association in collaboration with the Municipality of San Nicandro Garganico and the Parish of S. Maria del Borgo, with the support of the Province of Foggia and the Puglia Region. Thanks to the work of volunteers and the support of the citizens, the festival remains a moment of collective identity capable of drawing back emigrants, tourists, and visitors from neighboring towns.
The patronal feast is also the ideal opportunity to discover San Nicandro Garganico and its territory: from the medieval historic center to the nearby coastal lakes of Lesina and Varano, from the beaches of the Gargano promontory to the Gargano National Park. A mix of tradition, nature, and Puglian hospitality.
The 2026 Patronal Feast of San Nicandro Garganico opened on Wednesday, June 17th with the traditional dawn firecrackers and, at 6:45 PM, the solemn procession of the Patron Saints accompanied by the "Città di San Nicandro Garganico" band; in the evening, the lighting of the festive illuminations, a pyromusical show at Largo Castello, and a concert by the "Città di San Severo" Wind Orchestra in Piazza D. Fioritto. Thursday, June 18th featured the traditional Patron Saints food festival at Largo Colonna with Antonio Grana and his Band, and the "The Big Ball Band" live show in Piazza IV Novembre. Friday, June 19th, also in Piazza IV Novembre, hosted the open-air dance floor of "Bar Italia - La discoteca italiana". The grand finale took place on Saturday, June 20th with a concert by Elettra Lamborghini at 10:00 PM in Piazza IV Novembre and, at midnight, the closing pyromusical show.
San Nicandro Garganico is located in the Alto Tavoliere, in the Province of Foggia. By car, it can be reached from the A14 motorway exit of Poggio Imperiale-San Severo, continuing on the provincial road towards the Gargano. The San Nicandro Garganico railway station is served by the Adriatic line. The nearest airports are Bari-Palese and Foggia-Gino Lisa.
Events in the squares, processions, and firework displays are free of charge.
During the festival days, the historic center is crowded: it is advisable to park in the areas outside the town. There is no shortage of accommodation facilities in the surrounding area along the Gargano coast and near the lakes of Lesina and Varano.
