The Pro Loco gastronomic evening in the village of Tufillo, amidst the rustic flavors of the Alto Vastese region
The Pasta e Fagioli Evening is one of the warmest and most convivial events of the summer in Tufillo, a small town in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, perched on a ridge in the Medio Vastese area at the foot of Mount Farano, overlooking the Trigno Valley. Organized by the Pro Loco of Tufillo, the evening celebrates one of the most distinctive dishes of Abruzzo's traditional 'cucina povera': pasta and beans, prepared here according to a recipe passed down through local families.
Pasta e fagioli is much more than a recipe: it is the memory of a mountain community that built its diet around legumes, homemade pasta, and garden-fresh ingredients. In Tufillo, Pro Loco volunteers cook large quantities of this steaming dish, serving it to residents, emigrants returning to the village for the summer, and passing visitors. It is an evening that smells of woodsmoke, beans slow-cooked to perfection, and genuine conviviality.
The Pasta e Fagioli Evening is part of a rich summer calendar that the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Tufillo organize from June to September. The most anticipated moment remains the historic Cavatelli Festival on August 11th, now in its nearly fortieth edition, but the whole month is punctuated by events such as the Magnarella, the Black Night, the White Night of Reading, and the Tufilm screenings. The evening dedicated to pasta and beans, held mid-month, is one of the last major gastronomic highlights before the end of summer.
Those who reach Tufillo for the evening will find a village of ancient origins, inhabited since the Samnite era, featuring the Baroque Church of Santa Giusta and the 17th-century Palazzo dei Marchesi Bassano. Beyond pasta e fagioli, the Tufillo table preserves specialties such as cavatelli with ventricina, pizz'a figlitt, and lu cangarone, testaments to a still-vibrant peasant gastronomy. Admission to the evening is free, and the atmosphere is that of a genuine Abruzzese village feast.
The 2026 Pasta e Fagioli Evening will be held on August 17th in Tufillo, in the province of Chieti. The Pro Loco of Tufillo returns to serve the famous dish of legumes and homemade pasta, in one of the most popular evenings of the village's summer schedule. The event follows the historic Cavatelli Festival of August 11th by a few days and precedes the White Night of Reading, confirming itself as one of the last great gastronomic moments of the Tufillo summer.
The evening takes place in the historic center of Tufillo (CH), a village in the Medio Vastese area overlooking the Trigno Valley.
By car: from the Adriatic coast, take the Vasto Sud exit (A14) and head up the Trigno Valley along the SS650 Trignina, then follow signs for Tufillo. From inland, it can be reached from Chieti or upper Molise. There is no direct train connection: the most convenient station is Vasto-San Salvo, from where you must continue by car.
Free admission. For dates, times, and menus, we recommend following the Pro Loco Tufillo channels.
