The food festival celebrating Alberobello's iconic sandwich
Pasqualino Gourmet is the food festival that brings Alberobello to life every summer in the heart of the Itria Valley, in the province of Bari, Puglia. The event is entirely dedicated to the Pasqualino, the town's famous signature sandwich: a crusty roll filled with tuna, capers, salami, and mild string cheese. Originally created in the 1950s as a favorite snack for local students, the Pasqualino has evolved into a true gastronomic symbol and a core part of Alberobello's identity.
For the occasion, Via Barsento turns into a bustling gourmet village: food stalls, craft beers, local products, and Apulian street food specialties welcome thousands of visitors every evening. The heart of the festival is the Pasqualino Gourmet Award, a competition that honors the most creative and delicious reinterpretation of the city's iconic sandwich, involving local restaurants and butchers.
Alongside the culinary offerings, the festival features live concerts every night, ranging from cover bands to traditional Salento folk music, followed by DJ sets that keep Via Barsento buzzing until late at night. The program spans from folk to pop, rock, and international hits, with a special focus on tribute bands of Italy's biggest music stars. The atmosphere is that of a classic Apulian summer festival, perfect for families and visitors of all ages.
Pasqualino Gourmet is organized by the Associazione Gourmet Eventi di Alberobello, with the patronage of the Municipality of Alberobello and the collaboration of local and regional partners. The event is a highlight of the city's summer calendar, celebrating local producers, restaurateurs, and culinary artisans by blending tradition, great food, and entertainment. Admission is free.
Visiting Pasqualino Gourmet is also the perfect opportunity to discover Alberobello, world-famous for its trulli, the characteristic dry-stone buildings with conical roofs recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Strolling through the Rione Monti and Aia Piccola districts after enjoying a Pasqualino is an authentic way to experience the soul of Puglia.
From August 7 to 14, 2026, Via Barsento in Alberobello hosts a new edition of Pasqualino Gourmet, the food festival dedicated to the famous sandwich with tuna, capers, salami, and mild string cheese. The event is part of the summer program of the city of trulli, which in 2026 celebrates the 30th anniversary of its inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
As every year, visitors can expect food stalls, craft beers, the competition for the best Pasqualino reinterpretation, live concerts, and DJ sets until late at night. The detailed program with the musical line-up and participating businesses will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event. Free admission.
