Allegorical floats, costumes, and music in the heart of the historic center
The Partinico Carnival is one of the most cherished community events in this town in the Palermo hinterland. Organized by the Municipality of Partinico in Sicily, it transforms the historic center every year into an open-air stage filled with papier-mâché allegorical floats, masked groups, dance schools, and plenty of music.
The heart of the festival is the grand parade that kicks off from Piazza Duomo and travels through the city center: Via Principe Umberto, Via De Santis, Corso dei Mille, Via Crispi, Via Bellini, and Via Principe Amedeo, before returning to the town center. The floats, the result of months of hard work by float-makers, volunteers, and local associations, advance accompanied by costumed groups and choreography from local dance schools, creating a festive atmosphere that engages families and children alike.
In addition to the daytime parade, the Carnival features an evening program with shows and DJ sets that bring the squares to life, with the participation of local artists and associations. The event blends traditional Sicilian carnival customs with a more contemporary entertainment program, capable of attracting crowds from neighboring towns.
The Partinico Carnival is not limited to the center: surrounding hamlets and villages, such as Borgo Parrini, also participate in the carnival season with dedicated initiatives. Local schools, associations, and the Pro Loco are key players in the preparations, making the event an authentic moment of collective participation and a celebration of the folk traditions of the Municipality of Partinico.
The 2026 edition of the Partinico Carnival was scheduled with the main parade on Tuesday, February 17, starting at 3:00 PM from Piazza Duomo and involving local schools. The planned route crossed Via Principe Umberto, Via De Santis, Corso dei Mille, Via Crispi, Via Bellini, and Via Principe Amedeo, before returning to the heart of the city.
In the evening, shows and DJ sets were planned, leading up to the "Made in Italy" concert organized by the Freedom association, featuring DJ Spyne from Radio 105.
The parade initially planned for Sunday, February 15, was postponed due to unfavorable weather forecasts; the event on Tuesday, February 17, was also subsequently cancelled due to a weather alert, with heavy rain and wind gusts that did not guarantee the minimum safety conditions for the float parade.
Note: The parade on Sunday, February 15, was postponed, and the one on February 17 was ultimately cancelled due to a weather alert.
The Carnival takes place in the historic center of Partinico (PA), with the parade starting from Piazza Duomo and following a route along the main city streets.
Partinico is accessible by car via the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway (Partinico exit), approximately 30 km from Palermo. There is also a rail connection and numerous bus lines. During the parade days, traffic diversions and changes to bus stops along Via Principe Umberto are expected.
Participation in the parade and events in the square is free.
