The international street arts festival in the heart of the historic Ballarò market in Palermo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Ballarò Buskers Festival is Palermo's international street arts festival, showcasing contemporary circus, street theatre, and all forms of live outdoor performance. The event takes place in the heart of the Albergheria district, centered around the historic Ballarò Market—one of the city's oldest and most evocative markets, with roots stretching back over a thousand years. For three days, the district's alleys, squares, courtyards, and monumental spaces are filled with music, acrobatics, juggling, dance, poetry, and workshops.
The festival was founded in 2016 with a clear goal: to combat urban decay and neglect in the Albergheria area, restoring dignity and vitality to one of Palermo's most iconic and popular districts. From the four squares of the early editions, the festival has steadily expanded to encompass over a dozen urban spaces, becoming a true project of cultural and social regeneration. Organized by the Ballarò Buskers Social Promotion Association, the event weaves together entertainment, community participation, and the enhancement of the historic center's heritage.
Each year, the program brings together dozens of local, Sicilian, and international companies and performers. The district's spaces host a rotating schedule of contemporary circus, aerial acrobatics, tightrope walking, juggling, clowning, theatre, live music, and storytelling. Alongside evening performances, there are free workshops for children and families, exhibitions, craft activities, and social gatherings that make the festival an immersive, widespread experience capable of transforming the face of the neighborhood.
The Ballarò Buskers Festival has established itself as one of the most significant cultural events in the Municipality of Palermo and all of Sicily. Free and open to everyone, it attracts tens of thousands of participants each year who rediscover the authentic, grassroots beauty of the Albergheria district through street art. It is a unique opportunity to experience the Ballarò market in an unusual light, suspended between tradition and contemporary creativity.
The festival is traditionally held in October, usually over the third weekend of the month, for three consecutive days. We recommend checking the official website for the updated dates and program for each edition.
The 2026 edition of the Ballarò Buskers Festival is expected, as every year, in the Albergheria district of Palermo, though dates and the program have not yet been finalized. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to be held in October, over the third weekend of the month, featuring three days of contemporary circus, street theatre, music, and free workshops. Please check the official website and the festival's social media channels for updated information.
The festival takes place in the Albergheria district, in the historic center of Palermo, around the Ballarò Market, within walking distance of the Central Station and the Palazzo dei Normanni. We recommend exploring on foot: the area is pedestrianized, and the narrow alleys make driving difficult.
All performances and workshops are free to attend. Performers collect voluntary contributions (the "hat") at the end of their shows.
Wear comfortable shoes for walking between squares, arrive early for the major evening shows, and follow the festival's official channels for the program and venue map.
