Celebrating the new harvest in the heart of the Conca d'Oro, Altofonte
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every year, between late November and early December, the town of Altofonte, in the province of Palermo, celebrates its most iconic product with the Parco Olive Oil Festival, also known as "L'Olio del Parco." It is a time when the extra virgin olive oil, fresh from the mills, is shared with the community and visitors alike during a festive day that blends gastronomy, folk traditions, and historical heritage.
The heart of the event is Piazza Falcone e Borsellino, in the town center. Numerous stalls are set up here, showcasing local specialties: extra virgin olive oil, regional cheeses and dairy products, and artisanal bread and focaccia. Altofonte rises on the slopes of Monte Moarda, on the edge of the Conca d'Oroโa territory historically called "Parco" because it was part of the great royal hunting reserve of the Norman King Roger II of Hauteville, from whom the festival takes its name.
The Parco Olive Oil Festival is much more than just a tasting event: it is an opportunity to rediscover the olive-growing culture of the province of Palermo and the identity of a Sicilian village deeply rooted in its soil. Promoted by the Altofonte Pro Loco with the support of the Municipality, the event aims to champion local producers and introduce visitors to high-quality oil, made from olives harvested between October and November and pressed within hours of picking.
The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced: the festival is traditionally held on weekends between late November and early December, coinciding with the new olive oil season.
The Altofonte Pro Loco has not yet released the official dates for the 2026 edition of the Parco Olive Oil Festival. Based on previous years, the event is expected to take place on a Sunday between late November and early December, coinciding with the production of the new oil.
The detailed program, including times and activities, will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event. As per tradition, expect tastings of extra virgin oil on vastedde, guided tours of the mills and the village's historical heritage, and folk music in Piazza Falcone e Borsellino.
Altofonte is located just a few kilometers from Palermo. By car, it is easily accessible from the A29 motorway (exit towards Altofonte/Monreale) or by following the SS624 Palermo-Sciacca road. The festival takes place in Piazza Falcone e Borsellino, in the town center.
The event is traditionally held on a Sunday between late November and early December, typically from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM.
Access to the festival and tasting areas is free of charge. Purchases of local products at the stalls are paid.
Take advantage of the guided tours of the olive mills and the village's Norman heritage, and be sure to try the vastedde topped with new oilโthe true specialty of the day.
