The ALAB Sicilian artisan village in the heart of Palermo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of Palermo, the capital of Sicily, Piazza Castelnuovoโbetter known to locals as Piazza Politeamaโdresses up for the holidays every December to host one of the city's most beloved Christmas markets. Set up next to the Tempietto della Musica, just a short walk from the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi, the Piazza Castelnuovo Christmas Market is curated by ALAB - Associazione Liberi Artigiani-Artisti, an organization that has been enlivening the historic center for years with its handmade-focused initiatives.
Also known as NatALAB, the market features a path through wooden chalets where artisan-artists display and sell their work: handcrafted jewelry, Christmas decorations, ceramic objects, accessories, and unique gift ideas made entirely by hand. Among the most popular items are the historic ceramics of the Palermitan tradition, a symbol of the island's artisanal excellence. Everything found at the stalls is the result of patient work by expert hands, far removed from industrial production.
The market is more than just a place to shop: throughout December, craft workshops are organized for all ages, featuring fun and creative activities designed especially for children. Amidst sparkling lights, ornaments, and photo-ready corners, Piazza Castelnuovo becomes a meeting point for families, couples, and curious visitors strolling through the center during the holidays.
The location is one of the event's greatest strengths: Piazza Castelnuovo sits on the axis of Via Ruggero Settimo and Via della Libertร , Palermo's main shopping streets, making it easily accessible on foot during a Christmas walk in the center. Admission is completely free, making it an unmissable stop for anyone wanting to soak up the atmosphere of a Palermitan Christmas and support local craftsmanship.
Promoted by ALAB, the market is part of the association's broader commitment to giving visibility to independent local artisans and artists, restoring focus to manual labor and Sicilian creativity. Included among the official Christmas events of the Municipality of Palermo, it stands out for the quality and authenticity of its artisanal offerings.
The 2026 edition of the Piazza Castelnuovo Christmas Market in Palermo does not yet have official dates. Based on previous editions, the event is expected during the Christmas season, generally between December and early January, with Sicilian artisan chalets set up next to the Tempietto della Musica. The detailed program, hours, and list of exhibitors will be announced by the ALAB association and the Municipality of Palermo in the weeks leading up to the holidays.
The formula that characterized previous editions is confirmed: free admission, handmade artisanal products, and creative workshops open to all ages.
