An afternoon of music, painting, and history in a medieval tower in the Langhe
Parallel Universes is a cultural gathering that brings contemporary music and art into one of the most evocative settings in the Langhe: the Barbaresco Tower, located in the municipality of Barbaresco, in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont. The core concept of the event is to harmonize diverse forms of expression—the sound of the piano, the colors of painting, and the thousand-year history of the medieval tower—into a single afternoon that celebrates both beauty and the local territory.
The event takes place at the base and inside the Barbaresco Tower, the tallest and most imposing medieval tower in Piedmont. The first written record of the tower dates back to the end of the 11th century; in the 14th century, under the Visconti rule, it was raised to a height of about thirty meters to serve as an observation point and military defense. After a long restoration lasting over thirty years, the tower reopened to the public in 2015 and now offers a 360-degree view from its summit over the Barbaresco hills, the Tanaro river, and as far as Alba and Asti.
The musical heart of the event is the pianist Anna Dari from Asti, who performs her own original compositions, offering an intimate and contemporary sonic experience. Her notes engage in a dialogue with the paintings of Stefania Lubatti, originally from Andora, and Ivano Chiavarino, from Corneliano d'Alba. The paintings, inaugurated at the end of March, remain on display for several weeks inside the tower, transforming the historic space into a temporary art gallery.
Curated by blogger Alessandro Bosio, the event is part of the region's growing cultural vibrancy and is considered one of the previews on the path leading to Alba being named the Capital of Contemporary Art in 2027. The format—a cohesive blend of color and music in a landmark location of the Langhe—has been warmly received by the public and local authorities alike.
A refined and understated event, perfect for those who love combining the discovery of the Piedmontese territory with an unconventional artistic experience.
