About MACF

The Magliano Alfieri Classic Festival (MACF) is a high-level musical training event that brings the Castle of Magliano Alfieri and the surrounding towns of the Roero area, in the province of Cuneo, to life every July. Internationally renowned masters lead masterclasses in strings, woodwinds, piano, jazz, and film scoring, while evenings feature free concerts open to the public, performed by professors and top students alike. An event that blends educational excellence, emerging talent, and the vineyard-covered landscapes of the Langhe and Roero.

A high-level musical training festival in the Roero

The Magliano Alfieri Classic Festival (MACF) is one of the most compelling events in the Piedmontese musical scene: more than just a concert series, it is a true hub for advanced musical training. Every summer, it transforms the Municipality of Magliano Alfieri, in the province of Cuneo, and the nearby villages of the Roero into a widespread academy. Organized by the Le Arti Riflesse Association under the artistic direction of cellist Massimo Macrรฌ, the festival attracts young musicians from across Italy and abroad to study alongside world-class masters.

Masterclasses with international masters

The heart of the event lies in its masterclasses dedicated to string instruments, woodwinds, piano, film music, and jazz improvisation. Students participate in daily individual lessons and ensemble rehearsals in the Magliano Alfieri Chamber Orchestra, formed specifically for the course. Alongside instrumental training, the program offers cross-disciplinary workshops on mindfulness, lutherie, and electronic music, based on the belief that artistic experience is also a journey of personal growth and self-discovery.

The "Incontri tra Solisti" free concerts

Every evening, the festival opens its doors to the public with free concerts where professors, accompanied by their best students, take the stage together. Performances are held in the evocative halls and park of the Castle of Magliano Alfieri, a 17th-century historic residence overlooking the Roero hills, as well as in other venues across the participating towns. It is a unique opportunity for the audience to enjoy top-tier music in an intimate, free setting.

A territory-wide project

The MACF is not limited to Magliano Alfieri: the event involves a network of municipalities in the Province of Cuneo across the Roero and Langhe areas, including Bra, Canale, Castagnito, Castellinaldo d'Alba, Govone, Monticello d'Alba, Priocca, and San Martino Alfieri. Concerts and initiatives are spread throughout the territory, making the festival a tool for cohesion and cultural promotion of the Piedmont food, wine, and landscape heritage, a UNESCO site.

Young talents and awards

Special attention is paid to younger generations with the Young Festival, dedicated to students up to 14 years old, and the Soloist Prize, which allows string masterclass participants to shine. Scholarships and international collaborations complete a project aimed at establishing a permanent center for advanced musical training in the Roero.

MACF โ€” edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Magliano Alfieri Classic Festival is titled "Inspirations" and explores the link between art, identity, and self-knowledge. From July 5th to 15th, masterclasses in strings, woodwinds, piano, jazz, and film music led by international masters, with free evening concerts at the Castle and in the towns of the Roero.

The 2026 edition of the Magliano Alfieri Classic Festival is titled "Inspirations" and takes place from July 5 to 15, 2026, spanning the Castle of Magliano Alfieri and a network of towns in the Roero and Monferrato areas (Bra, Canale, Castagnito, Castellinaldo d'Alba, Govone, Monticello d'Alba, Priocca, San Martino Alfieri).

The theme of the year reflects on how art connects to identity and self-knowledge, a common thread running through masterclasses, workshops, and concerts. Alongside instrumental training, the program offers initiatives such as the Young Festival for children, the Soloist Prize for string students, and solidarity projects linked to international scholarships.
