On June 21st, Alba's historic center comes alive with free concerts for the summer solstice
On June 21st, the summer solstice, Alba officially joins the great international community of the European Music Day, an event born in France in 1982 and now celebrated in hundreds of European cities. For the capital of the Langhe, in the province of Cuneo, this marks its first official participation in the network: a day where live music invades the squares and streets of the historic center, free and accessible to all.
The heart of the festival is the historic center of Alba, with the famous Via Maestra (Via Vittorio Emanuele II) connecting Piazza Michele Ferrero to Piazza Risorgimento. Along this axis, with itinerant performances in the surrounding urban spaces, a series of concerts, spontaneous shows, and musical entertainment unfolds. The concept is that of a widespread festival, where the public strolls from one point of the city to another, discovering different genres and atmospheres.
The program spans eras and styles: from traditional Piedmontese music of the old taverns to blues, from brass music to chamber music, and performances by young students from the city's music institutes. It is a deliberately inclusive choice: the municipal administration aims to break down cultural barriers by bringing "free concerts and borderless genres" to public spaces.
Known worldwide for its white truffle and great wines, Alba adds a musical appointment to its rich cultural offering that symbolically marks the beginning of summer. The Music Day is part of a calendar of events that animates the city center during the summer, representing an opportunity for residents and visitors to experience Alba's urban heritage in a festive and participatory way.
Admission to all performances is free. The event is organized by the Municipality of Alba through the Department of Culture, with the support of Banca d'Alba. The detailed program is published on the official tourism portal visitalba.eu.
