Papaveritivo: walk, taste, and admire the poppies

The Papaveritivo is one of the most anticipated spring events in Chianocco, a small town in the Susa Valley, in the Province of Turin (Piedmont). It is an aperitif-walk that winds through the Crotte hamlet, along internal paths crossing wheat fields painted red by poppies and blue by cornflowers. The name itself, a play on words between "papavero" (poppy) and "aperitivo," perfectly captures the spirit of the event: a slow, convivial walk punctuated by delicious stops, right at the peak of the spring bloom in the middle Susa Valley.

An easy route through nature and taste

The itinerary is accessible to everyone: approximately 2.5 km on dirt roads and flat paths, with convenient parking near the start and finish points. During the walk, accompanied by a historical-naturalistic guide, participants discover the plant and animal species of the surrounding fields and woods, as well as interesting facts about the town's history. Along the way, there are three tasting stops where local cured meats, bread, jams, honey, and other regional delicacies are served.

Music, market, and conviviality

The day begins in the afternoon with a market featuring local and artisanal products before the walks depart. The aperitif is accompanied by live music, with a band specializing in Occitan and folk music from the upper Susa Valley providing the soundtrack to the festival. The initiative is organized by the Chianocco Celebration Committee and represents a genuine opportunity to showcase the agricultural landscape, traditions, and flavors of this corner of Piedmont.

Who is it for?

Papaveritivo is designed for families, couples, and groups of friends: the walk is easy and suitable for children, for whom a reduced rate is available. Comfortable clothing and sneakers are recommended. Booking is mandatory, given the limited capacity of the event.
