The Easter market fair in the historic center of Canosa Sannita
The Palm Sunday Market Fair is an event held in Canosa Sannita, a village in the province of Chieti, in the heart of the hilly Abruzzo region. Revived in a modern format by the municipal administration, the fair brings back a custom deeply rooted in the town's history: in its glorious past, Canosa Sannita boasted a busy calendar of fairs and markets, fixed appointments that punctuated the life of the community and enlivened its streets.
After a long period of absence, the Municipality decided to reintroduce this market festival on Palm Sunday, the Sunday that opens Holy Week and leads up to Easter. The choice of date is no coincidence: the fair fits into the atmosphere of anticipation and preparation typical of the days preceding Easter celebrations, when the historic center fills with visitors.
On the day of the fair, the streets of the historic center of Canosa Sannita transform into a long open-air market. Street vendors and exhibitors enliven the streets with their stalls, offering various goods in a festive and convivial atmosphere. It is an opportunity for a stroll among the stalls, for traditional shopping, and for meeting up in the square, rediscovering the pleasure of the village market as a moment of encounter and social interaction.
For the municipal administration, led by Mayor Costanza Berardi, the fair has a value that goes beyond the market day itself. The stated goal is to grow this appointment and make it a reference event in the days leading up to Easter, enhancing the history and culture of the town. Through the rediscovery of traditions, the administration explains, the aim is to help commerce and, more generally, the local economy, stimulating the influx of visitors to the village.
The Palm Sunday Fair thus joins the town's other fair tradition, the historic autumn fair on November 1st, creating a calendar that intertwines commerce, community, and the memory of Abruzzo's popular traditions. A small village event that, edition after edition, aims to consolidate itself as a fixed spring stop in the province of Chieti.
On Palm Sunday 2026, March 29th, Canosa Sannita renewed its appointment with its market fair. Reaching its second edition following the successful participation in 2025, the event brought vendors and exhibitors along the streets of the historic center in a festive atmosphere marked by local traditions.
Mayor Costanza Berardi reiterated the administration's goal: to grow the event and make it a reference point in the days leading up to Easter, helping local commerce and the economy through the rediscovery of traditions.
The fair takes place in the streets of the historic center of Canosa Sannita (province of Chieti, Abruzzo), postal code 66010.
