The festival dedicated to oregano in the village of Liscia, Abruzzo
The Oregano Festival is one of the most distinctive summer food festivals in the Chieti hinterland. It takes place in Liscia, a small village of a few hundred inhabitants perched at an altitude of about 740 meters in the hills of southern Abruzzo, in the province of Chieti. Organized by the Pro Loco of Liscia, the event brings Piazza San Rocco to life with an evening dedicated to one of the iconic aromas of Mediterranean cuisine.
The heart of the festival is its culinary offering: stalls typically open at 7:00 PM, serving a special menu where oregano is the star of every dish. Past editions have featured delicacies such as oregano-scented cream puffs, ricotta ravioli seasoned with oregano, and oregano-infused pork rolls, alongside the traditional local "origanelle." It is a journey through flavors that reflects the agricultural heritage of this corner of Abruzzo, where aromatic herbs grow wild on the hillsides.
Beyond the food, the Oregano Festival offers an evening of entertainment: live music with bands covering various genres and decades, the unmissable raffle draw, and dancing that continues until late at night. Previous editions have featured artists like Roby Santini and local bands capable of engaging audiences of all ages, turning the square into a meeting point for residents and visitors from neighboring towns.
Attending the festival is also the perfect opportunity to discover Liscia and its surroundings—an authentic village far from mass tourism circuits, immersed in the hilly landscape of the Vastese area. The festival is a significant moment for the community and the Pro Loco, which is dedicated to promoting the town's gastronomic traditions and social life. The atmosphere is that of a genuine Abruzzese village feast, where hospitality and good food are at the center of everything.
The Oregano Festival in Liscia (CH) returns, according to the announced dates, on Saturday, July 18, 2026, in Piazza San Rocco. The edition will be organized as usual by the Pro Loco of Liscia, with the evening opening of food stalls dedicated to oregano-based dishes, live music, and the raffle draw.
At the moment, the full program, menu, and musical guests for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially confirmed. Information will be updated as soon as the Pro Loco publishes the details on its channels.
Liscia is located in the hinterland of the province of Chieti, in Abruzzo. By car, it can be reached from the A14 motorway exit (Vasto Sud or Termoli), continuing inland along the provincial roads of the Vastese area. The nearest train station is Vasto-San Salvo on the Adriatic line; from there, the village can be reached by car.
Admission to the event is free. The full gastronomic menu is available for purchase (in recent editions, it has been around 20 euros). Table reservations are generally not available, except for assistance for people with reduced mobility.
As it is a hill village, we recommend checking the updated dates and program on the Pro Loco di Liscia channels before setting off, and bringing a light jacket for the evening.
