Street food in the heart of Valdaora di Mezzo
The Olanger Standlschmaus, also known as the Street Food Festival, is one of the most anticipated summer events in Valdaora/Olang, a town in the Puster Valley in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige region. On select mild summer evenings, the center of Valdaora di Mezzo (Mitterolang) transforms into a lively open-air dining village: local innkeepers and restaurateurs set up their stalls around Florianiplatz to showcase the very best of local cuisine.
The word Standlschmaus translates from the South Tyrolean dialect as «stall banquet»: each stand offers a unique specialty. You will find everything from Strauben (traditional South Tyrolean spiral-shaped funnel cakes) to homemade apple strudel in all its variations, as well as hearty traditional farm-style dishes and Mediterranean-inspired options like seafood risotto. It is the perfect opportunity to sample a wide array of local flavors in a single evening, ranging from traditional South Tyrolean products to creative culinary twists from the village chefs.
Conviviality is the heart of the event: as you wander between stalls with a plate in hand, the air fills with the sound of live music. From traditional brass bands to modern ensembles performing at various spots around the square, the atmosphere is carefree and family-friendly, welcoming both holidaymakers and the residents of Valdaora.
The Olanger Standlschmaus evenings are held in the center of Valdaora di Mezzo. Admission is free; you simply pay for what you consume at the individual stalls. The event is organized by the Valdaora Tourist Board and is a fantastic way to discover the food and wine traditions of the Puster Valley in a casual, cheerful setting, with the mountains of Plan de Corones as a stunning backdrop.
