About Nuovi Mondi Festival

In Rittana, a small village in the Valle Stura near Cuneo, the Nuovi Mondi Festival brings the best of mountain, exploration, and adventure cinema to the mountains every summer. Featuring documentaries from across the globe and encounters with mountaineers, explorers, and contemporary cultural icons, the festival transforms this village of a few hundred inhabitants into a vibrant hub of ideas and storytelling. More than just a film festival, it is a cultural revival project for the Piedmontese mountains, attracting a curious and passionate audience to the high valley.

A festival looking into the unknown

The Nuovi Mondi Festival is one of the most original cultural events in the province of Cuneo. It takes place in Rittana, a small municipality in the Valle Stura, in the heart of the Piedmontese Alps, with a clear mission: to bring world-class mountain and adventure cinema to a mountain village, turning it into an engine for regional development. What began as a film festival has evolved over the years into a genuine territorial activation and promotion project, part of the Montagna Futura Cultural District.

Cinema, exploration, and renowned guests

The heart of the festival is its international documentary competition: every year, over a thousand entries arrive from all over the world, from which a jury selects around twenty films dedicated to mountains, adventure, exploration, and distant lands. Alongside the screenings, the program features meetings and evenings with mountaineers, explorers, writers, and contemporary cultural figures: over the years, the Rittana stage has hosted names like Hans Kammerlander, Carlos Soria, Alex Txikon, Hervé Barmasse, and Giovanni Soldini.

A different theme every year

Each edition revolves around a central theme that gives the program unity. From the "Blue Ocean" of 2025 to themes inviting us to push ever further: 2026 chooses "The Unknown Deep Space", an invitation to explore the boundaries of human knowledge and adventure, from the mountains to the cosmos.

More than a festival: a widespread event

The Nuovi Mondi Festival does not end with the main evening events. A widespread festival develops around the core event, bringing screenings, concerts, and shows to the municipalities of the Montagna Futura District throughout the month, involving the entire Valle Stura. Organized by the Kosmoki ETS association together with the Municipality of Rittana, the festival is also committed to environmental sustainability with its "Plastic Free" policy.

Why it's worth the trip to Valle Stura

Attending the Nuovi Mondi Festival means discovering an authentic corner of the Cuneo Alps, far from mass tourism, and experiencing cinema in an intimate, family-like setting. It is the perfect opportunity to combine a passion for the mountains, the stories of those who explore them, and the beauty of a small Piedmontese village that, for a few summer days, becomes the center of an open dialogue with the world.
