The food and wine walk through the hazelnut groves of Castellero
The Nocciolonga - The Hazelnut... and Taste Trail has become a highly anticipated spring event in the municipality of Castellero, a small village in the Province of Asti, in the heart of the Piedmontese Monferrato. Established in 2016, the event combines two great passions of these hills: slow walking among the rows and fine dining. The route, a 7 km loop on dirt paths and country roads, winds through the hazelnut groves that have made this corner of Piedmont famous.
The heart of Nocciolonga is the progressive lunch: along the way, participants encounter eight gastronomic stations, one after another, where they can taste traditional Asti dishes. It starts with breakfast and continues through savory and sweet courses, ending with a final gelato. Each dish is accompanied by a selection of local wines, because here the hazelnut coexists with the great reds and whites of the Monferrato.
Nocciolonga is a festival that tells the story of the village's identity: the hazelnut, cultivated for generations on these hills, is the star of the recipes, desserts, and gifts of the day. Walking among the rows, one discovers the deep bond between Castellero and its most precious product, in an experience that intertwines landscape, rural tradition, and conviviality.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Noi del Castlè APS in collaboration with the Municipality of Castellero. Departures are staggered throughout the morning, allowing everyone to enjoy the walk at their own pace. At the end of the route, between toasts, there is a convivial moment with a prize draw for participants. It is a day designed for families, hikers, and food and wine lovers, which attracts numerous visitors to the hazelnut-growing region of Piedmont every year.
