The village of Civitella d'Agliano celebrates wine: over 40 wineries offering tastings through the alleys of the Tuscia region.
Nelle Terre del Grechetto is one of the most anticipated food and wine events in the province of Viterbo. It takes place every year on the last weekend of July in the historic center of Civitella d'Agliano, a small town in Lazio perched on the border with Umbria and Tuscany. For over twenty years, the festival has celebrated the territory through its signature wine, Grechetto, a white grape variety that finds one of its most authentic expressions here.
The format is a classic: visitors are provided with a wine glass and a lanyard to wander freely along a tasting route that winds through squares, courtyards, and narrow village streets. Along the way, you will find stands from over 40 wineries from Tuscia, Umbria, and other wine-growing regions, offering their wines paired with local specialties. The landscape provides a stunning backdrop: stone houses overlooking the evocative Calanchi Valley, shaped by the erosion of clay soils.
Nelle Terre del Grechetto is more than just a tasting event. The program weaves wine with live music, poetry readings, and in-depth sessions for enthusiasts and industry professionals. Evenings come alive with concerts in the square and literary readings hosted in the most scenic corners of the village, while daytime activities include technical tastings reserved for journalists and producers, as well as showcases for emerging local wines.
The event is organized by the Municipality of Civitella d'Agliano together with the Pro Loco, in collaboration with wine expert Carlo Zucchetti. It is a precious opportunity to discover a lesser-known corner of Lazio, where rural tradition, the hospitality of small villages, and the quality of wine production merge into a visitor-friendly experience. Those who arrive in Civitella d'Agliano will find an authentic town, far from mass tourism, ideal for combining wine discovery with the historical and natural heritage of Tuscia.
The appointment with Nelle Terre del Grechetto is confirmed for the weekend of July 24 to 26, 2026, in the historic center of Civitella d'Agliano, in the province of Viterbo. As tradition dictates, the village transforms into a large tasting trail with glass and lanyard dedicated to Grechetto and local wines, accompanied by live music and cultural moments.
The detailed program of the edition, including the list of participating wineries, tasting times, and the schedule of shows, will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event. For updates, we recommend following the official channels of the Municipality of Civitella d'Agliano and the Pro Loco.
Civitella d'Agliano is accessible by car via the A1 motorway, taking the Orvieto exit and continuing towards the Viterbo Tuscia; the nearest train station is Orvieto, on the Rome-Florence line. The village is about a half-hour drive from both Viterbo and Orvieto.
Participation in the tasting route requires the purchase of the glass and lanyard kit, which grants access to tastings at the winery stands according to the formulas proposed each year by the organizers. Evening shows and concerts take place in the squares of the historic center.
We recommend wearing comfortable shoes for walking along the stone alleys of the village and booking accommodation in advance, given the limited number of lodging facilities in the town and its surroundings.
