A festival born from the heart of the village

The Ndrucciullune Festival is the newest addition to the events in Pollutri, a town of just over two thousand inhabitants nestled in the hills of the Vasto hinterland, in the province of Chieti, in the heart of Abruzzo. Established in 2025 to celebrate the first ten years of the Pro Loco Pollutri APS, the festival immediately captured the town's spirit by combining three key ingredients: the taste of peasant cuisine, the art of the Crochet Flower Festival, and live music.

What are ndrucciullune?

Ndrucciullune are a traditional, humble dish from Pollutri: a simple, generous pasta dish rooted in home cooking, made with modest ingredients and plenty of patience. Serving them during the festival means rediscovering a flavor that risked being confined to family kitchens, returning it to the community as a shared heritage. Alongside the main course, the evening offers other local specialties, from fried pizza stuffed with mortadella and local ventricina to desserts like cantucci and Nutella-filled fried pizza.

The Crochet Flower Festival

The festival's hallmark is its connection to the Traveling Crochet Flower Festival, an artistic project promoted by the Pro Loco of San Salvo that tours various Italian regions each year, showcasing dozens of floral panels entirely crocheted by hundreds of artisans. In Pollutri, the Flower Festival dresses the streets of the historic center with colorful, handmade compositions, including panels created by the town's own embroiderers: an artistic path to explore on foot, winding through the alleys up to Piazza Giovanni Paolo I.

Music and conviviality

As evening falls, the square becomes the hub of the festivities: food stalls serve ndrucciullune and other specialties while live music accompanies the tasting, followed by a DJ set that enlivens the Pollutri night. It is a village festival in the most authentic sense, designed to bring residents and visitors together around a table and a traditional dish.
