The Nebrodi village transforms into a widespread nativity scene between December and January
With the arrival of Christmas, the village of Naso, perched on the Nebrodi mountains in the province of Messina, Sicily, dresses up for the holidays and becomes "Naso City of Nativity Scenes." From December 8th until the Epiphany, the churches, squares, alleys, and historic districts host an itinerary of nativity scenes created by local students, families, and associations: a true open-air museum that invites residents and visitors to discover the town by walking from one masterpiece to the next.
The most anticipated event is the Living Nativity, set up among the narrow streets, alleys, and staircases of Naso's historic center. For the performance, over two hundred participants bring Christmas traditions and ancient crafts to life, turning every corner of the village into a living painting. Organized by the Municipality of Naso together with the local community, the Living Nativity combines faith, memory, and Nebrodi identity in an emotional journey suitable for all ages.
Celebrations begin on December 8th, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, with the lighting of the Christmas tree in Piazza Roma. Over the following weeks, the program is enriched with itinerant bagpipe music, dance evenings, Christmas carols, Santa's Village, and plenty of entertainment designed for families and children.
The festivities continue into January with the Christmas Concert and the New Year's Concert, culminating on Epiphany with the evocative live tombola. It is an event that celebrates the heritage, popular traditions, and folklore of Sicily, offering the perfect opportunity to discover one of the most characteristic villages in the Nebrodi Park.
The 2025/2026 edition of Naso City of Nativity Scenes opened on December 8th with the lighting of the Christmas tree in Piazza Roma and the start of the nativity scene itinerary created by students, families, and associations in the churches, squares, and alleys of the historic center.
On December 27th, the historic center hosted the "Pilgrims of Hope" Living Nativity, which led visitors to rediscover the crafts and traditions of the past, followed by a concert at the Teatro Vittorio Alfieri. The program included itinerant bagpipe music, dance evenings, Christmas carols, Santa's Village, and family entertainment. The festivities concluded on January 6th with the live tombola.
Naso is located in the province of Messina, in the Nebrodi area. By car, it can be reached via the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway (exit Brolo-Capo d'Orlando), continuing inland for about 15 km. The nearest train station is Capo d'Orlando-Naso, on the Tyrrhenian line, from where you can continue by car or local connections.
The "Naso City of Nativity Scenes" itinerary can be visited from December 8th to January 6th. Performances and events take place in the historic center, generally with free admission. Comfortable, warm clothing is recommended for walking through the alleys and staircases.
