About Artistic Nativity Scenes Sinagra

Every Christmas, Palazzo Salleo in Sinagra—a small village in the Nebrodi mountains in the province of Messina—hosts the Artistic Nativity Scene Exhibition. Dozens of nativity scenes crafted by local artisans, artists, schools, and families are displayed, accompanied by the historic "Most Original Nativity Scene" competition. This event transforms the village into a widespread Christmas museum, featuring the famous nativity scene that recreates Sinagra inside a natural cave and the evocative village-wide nativity display.

The Artistic Nativity Scene Exhibition in Sinagra

The Artistic Nativity Scene Exhibition is the most anticipated Christmas event in Sinagra, a town in the province of Messina nestled within the Nebrodi Park in Sicily. Every winter, the rooms of the 18th-century Palazzo Salleo, the village's pride and joy, welcome dozens of nativity scenes created by local artisans, artists, associations, schools, and families, giving life to an exhibition that blends devotion, folk art, and community identity.

A tradition that grows year after year

Having reached a solid maturity in just a few years, the exhibition is organized by the Pro Loco of Sinagra in collaboration with the Municipality and the San Michele Arcangelo Parish. Each edition gathers over one hundred nativity scenes and more than eighty artists, many of whom come from outside the region, confirming the appeal that the event exerts well beyond the borders of the Nebrodi.

Iconic nativity scenes and the village-as-a-nativity

Among the most beloved works are the nativity scene by Maria and Giuseppe Saitta, which reproduces the entire village of Sinagra inside a natural cave, and the creations of Antonio Bivacqua. Alongside the indoor exhibition, the village comes alive with the village-as-a-nativity setup, which transforms alleys, stairways, and characteristic corners into open-air Christmas scenery.

The "Most Original Nativity Scene" competition

The heart of the event is the historic "Most Original Nativity Scene" competition, divided into a general category and a children's category, with awards that celebrate creativity, the use of materials, and the connection to tradition. The closing ceremony, with the presentation of awards, concludes the exhibition period every year.

Why visit

Visiting the Artistic Nativity Scene Exhibition means discovering a small Sicilian village in its most authentic and welcoming form: admission is free, and in addition to the exhibited works, you can stroll through the historic center of Sinagra immersed in the atmosphere of Christmas in the Nebrodi.

Artistic Nativity Scenes Sinagra — edition 2026

The Artistic Nativity Scene Exhibition of Sinagra returns, as is tradition, during the Christmas period at Palazzo Salleo. The official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the Pro Loco of Sinagra: the event usually takes place between the second half of December and the beginning of January, with free admission and the usual "Most Original Nativity Scene" competition.

The 2026 edition of the Artistic Nativity Scene Exhibition in Sinagra (province of Messina) is expected, as every year, during the Christmas holidays in the spaces of Palazzo Salleo. At the moment, the Pro Loco of Sinagra has not yet released the official dates and the detailed program: information will be updated as soon as it becomes available. For 2026, the nativity scene exhibition and the historic "Most Original Nativity Scene" competition are also planned.
