Ficarra's grand summer celebration honoring the return of its emigrants
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
For over fifty years, the Emigrant's Festival has been one of the most beloved and defining events of the summer in Ficarra, a small village in the Nebrodi mountains of Sicily. Traditionally held on August 13th, in the heart of the summer season, the village welcomes back those who, over the decades, left in search of a new life in other parts of Italy or abroad. It is an evening dedicated to roots, memories, and reunions.
The event is promoted by the Pro Loco Ficarrese, founded in 1969 by Amedeo and Pietro Ferraloro to enhance the village's socio-cultural, environmental, and tourism profile. Since its inception, the Pro Loco has made the Emigrant's Festival one of its most enduring traditions. Like many inland Sicilian towns, Ficarra experienced intense emigration during the 20th century, and this festival was created to honor those who departed and maintain the thread connecting the diaspora to their home community.
The heart of the festival is Piazza Umberto I, the main square of the historic center, which transforms into a grand open-air stage for the night. The evening is brought to life by live music and entertainment designed for all generations. In the 2025 edition, for instance, the stage hosted a concert by the Kilimangiaro Band, featuring Mauro Cappotto, before a square packed with residents, vacationers, and many emigrants who returned home for the occasion.
The Emigrant's Festival is a cornerstone of the Ficarra Estate program, a series of events that fills the village with literature, theater, music, and folk traditions throughout the summer. Taking place in the middle of the season, it anticipates the Ferragosto holiday and serves as a vital meeting point for families.
Dates and the detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced; we recommend following the official channels of the Pro Loco Ficarrese and the Municipality of Ficarra for updates.
