A gourmet walk through the villages of Val di Sole

'Na Tonda e 'na Magnada up to Ortisè and Menas is one of the most beloved summer events in Mezzana, in the Val di Sole (Autonomous Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige). It is a food and wine walking tour that invites participants to discover Ortisè and Menas, two characteristic mountain hamlets that retain their historic charm, complete with stone alleys, barns, and ancient farmsteads.

The route

The walk starts early in the morning from Mezzana: you climb through Roncio, continue along a dirt path crossing the Masi di Daial and Moresana up to Mezol, then reach Malga Farini and finally the two villages. The elevation gain is about 500 meters, with a maximum gradient of around 20%: an itinerary suitable for fit walkers, offering panoramic views of the valley's mountains. Those who prefer to skip the climb can reach Ortisè comfortably by shuttle or private car.

The gourmet stops

The heart of the festival is the gourmet route, organized in several stops along the streets of Ortisè and Menas. It begins with a farmer's breakfast at the mountain hut and continues with the genuine flavors of alpine tradition:

  • cold cuts and mountain cheeses;
  • steaming canederli;
  • polenta and stew;
  • desserts, ricotta with honey, and local specialties;
  • all paired with Trentino wines.

Between courses, there is no shortage of folk music, accordions, and choirs that bring the village squares to life, turning the day into a true village festival.

Ortisè, Menas, and rural tradition

Beyond the gastronomy, the event is an opportunity to visit the Martinelli farm in Menas and explore the historical heritage of Ortisè, starting with the ancient parish church, a testament to the rural and religious culture of Val di Sole. It is an authentic way to experience the territory, far from the beaten tourist paths, while supporting agricultural businesses and local producers in the municipality of Mezzana.

An event organized by the community

The event is promoted by the Mezzana Marilleva Tourist Consortium with the involvement of local associations, volunteer firefighters, and businesses in Ortisè and Menas. A widespread and participatory event that combines hiking, food and wine, and popular traditions in the heart of western Trentino.
