Three days of masks, floats, and music in the heart of the Vallone area
The Mussomeli Carnival is one of the most cherished winter events in the municipality of Mussomeli, located in the province of Caltanissetta, in the heart of central Sicily. For three days, the streets and squares of the historic center are filled with color, masks, and music, turning the town into a large open-air stage. The event is organized by the Municipal Administration together with the Pro Loco of Mussomeli and various local associations, with the aim of promoting tradition and creating opportunities for socialization and celebration for all ages.
The most anticipated moment is the parade of allegorical floats and masked groups that winds through the town streets, starting from the gathering point in Piazza della Repubblica. Children, teenagers, and adults bring the procession to life with colorful costumes, choreography, and infectious joy, in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire community. The event alternates between moments dedicated to the little ones, with entertainment shows, micro-magic, soap bubbles, and juggling, and musical evenings designed for young people and all fans of music and dance.
As evening falls, the party moves to Piazza Umberto I, which transforms into a large open-air dance floor thanks to DJ sets and themed nights that keep the Carnival alive until late at night. The music, ranging from 90s hits to the latest chart-toppers, accompanies locals and visitors in an atmosphere of pure fun.
Beyond the entertainment aspect, the Mussomeli Carnival maintains a strong bond with the territory and its associations: in recent editions, the event has hosted social awareness campaigns and solidarity initiatives, confirming its value as a moment of aggregation for the municipality and the entire Vallone district. An event that combines fun, tradition, and commitment, representing one of the most vibrant Carnival celebrations in the province of Caltanissetta.
Dominated by the famous Castello Manfredonico, Mussomeli is one of the most characteristic towns in inland Sicily. The Carnival offers the ideal opportunity to discover the village, its squares, and its hospitality, experiencing an authentic celebration of Sicilian popular tradition in the Sicily region.
The 2026 Mussomeli Carnival took place from Sunday, February 15 to Tuesday, February 17, bringing the historic center of the town to life with three days of masks, floats, and music. The event, organized by the Municipal Administration together with the Pro Loco, featured parades, children's entertainment, and musical evenings for all ages.
Sunday kicked off the festivities with a gathering of masks and floats in Piazza della Repubblica, entertainment for the little ones, and the evening parade through the town streets, followed by the Generation 90 party in Piazza Umberto I. Monday was dedicated to children with micro-magic, bubble, and juggling shows. Shrove Tuesday featured the final parade and a major evening with a DJ set in the square, accompanied by solidarity initiatives for the community.
Mussomeli can be reached by car via the SS 189 and SS 121 roads; the nearest train station is in Caltanissetta. The reference airports are Palermo and Catania.
