June 21st in Ischitella: bands, choirs, and a massive concert in the heart of the Gargano
Every year on June 21st, Ischitella, a small town in the Gargano area of the Foggia province, joins the Music Festival, a widespread event that celebrates the summer solstice with free concerts in public spaces across Italy and in over one hundred countries worldwide. The event is organized by the Pro Loco Uria Association of Ischitella del Gargano, with the patronage of the local municipality and the involvement of the town administration, civil service volunteers, and local choral, musical, and dance associations.
For one day, the streets and squares of the town center become an open-air stage. The festivities kick off at the Villa Comunale, wind through the town streets, and culminate in a massive grand finale concert between Piazza De Vera D'Aragona and Piazza Cesare Battisti. It is a deeply popular and inclusive event that brings together different generations: children, local young talents, marching bands, polyphonic choirs, and dance groups take turns on stage until late at night.
The program weaves together various musical styles. On one hand, there is the band and choral tradition, featuring the "Pietro Giannone" City Musical Corps, the Junior Band, and local polyphonic choirs; on the other, modern sounds take center stage with evening rock and blues performances and the ever-popular tribute bands that energize the final concert. String ensembles and dance groups also feature, showcasing a community that views music as a shared language.
The 2026 edition aligns with the national theme "The Voice of Places", promoted by the Ministry of Culture (MiC) and the AIPFM, dedicated to choral music and the enhancement of local heritage and cultural assets: a fitting theme for Ischitella, a village overlooking Lake Varano and nestled in the greenery of the Gargano National Park.
The concerts are complemented by the convivial atmosphere typical of Gargano festivals: along the route, you will find food stalls serving traditional products, from pettole (fried dough balls) to sausage sandwiches and crepes. It is the perfect opportunity to explore the historic center of Ischitella, enjoy its panoramic views of the Gargano, and experience the hospitality of a small Apulian community that, for one evening, gathers together in the square.
